Not looking to be a good season ...

Posted by Kitkat, 05 April 2012 · 921 views

So at this point, I am looking at three rejections, and still two unknowns. Out of those two unknowns, I am thinking that one is a definite rejection, and the other one I think is not looking that great either. Not necessarily impossible, in my cynical mind, but unlikely, mainly do to the fact that they take so few people.

But at this point it looks like I have a good start for my plan B, which I have been thinking a lot about this season. Considering what I want to do in the future, with a PhD, I am hoping that it really does work. It is also with the museum that I am hoping to work with while getting my PhD in the future. I applied to two programs that have affiliations with the museum I am hoping to be working at soon.  I am hoping that it is a start for me improving my application the next time I apply in the next year or two, if the last two schools don't work out. One of the schools that work with this program is still unknown to me at this point.

*sigh*

This whole situation is depressing.

Hey Kitkat, keep your head up. I know how disappointing it can be to not get in on your first try. If it ends up that you don't get in this year, use this years' experience as motivation to put together an even stronger application for next year. Hopefully you'll get good news among the remaining decisions, perhaps you're on a school's waitlist, but if not, don't get too down, it'd just be an obstacle for you to overcome on your journey to a Phd.
It ain't over 'til it's over! hang in there! :D
Seriously, it's not over. Trust me, I was in the exact same spot last week and at the last minute, BAM, a miracle.
So now I am down to just one school. Heard back from another school recently, and it's another rejection. One school left. Here's to hoping, since it was my second choice school!
I'm in a very similar boat. Still holding out a little bit of hope, but trying to mentally prepare myself not to be too disappointed if it doesn't work out this year.
I really wish you luck and hope you'll get good news from that last school!
I'm sorry to hear about your schools. At the same time, I think working at a museum is an excellent idea! It's what I did in between my Master's and before my acceptance into a doctoral program this year (which was my second try!). You can also present at different conferences, which your museum could possibly pay for, and that will look fantastic on your CV. Best of luck!
I'm sorry to hear that from you but continue hanging on Kitkat.
Hey kitkat, don't despair, though are experience as dissimilar disappointment is a ubiquitous feeling. I thought the worst for the longest time and by some miracle things just started picking up for me and now I have hope again. I believe the same will happen for you :)
