And now we wait....

Posted by alleycat393, 12 October 2010 · 113 views

Right so this is sheer boredom! All but one app has been submitted-the last one is ready but I'm waiting to hear something, anything, from a PI at this last university. BUT, I will only wait till the beginning of next week coz I do want my GRE scores to reach them in time.

The online application systems of some universities will acknowledge when my transcripts and GRE scores have reached them and the systems of otther won't so I just have to trust *rolls eyes*. Anyway, all in all I would say that this is one of the least stressful parts of the process-submitting everything. The stress comes on now-waiting for everything to reach safetly-for that email that says 'Application Complete!' and then checking the email a million times for an admissions decision. And then I'm hoping the process of actually accepting offers is peaceful....

The only bee under my bonnet at the moment is my UCSD application. So it all started off hunky-dory when I sent off the pre-app form back in August. I haven't heard a peep out of them since then (to be fair they did acknowledge the receipt of my form and say that they would begin processing the pre-apps in November). Anyway, they said if my pre-app was successful they would send me application instructions BUT their actual application deadline is the 1st of December!!! How do a bunch of academics NOT know that academics take their own sweet time to write LORs and that lighting a fire under their arses does not help the process? Ugh!

Comments?

Wait, what? It's October 12th and you've already submitted almost all of your applications? I hadn't even asked professors to write LORs at this point!

If your lucky and have options that decission will haunt you forever. I've decided over two years ago where to go out of my options and the unknown still haunts me whether I made the right choice.

Well that's always a worry-making the right decision but before I applied I sorted my schools by order of preference so I think I'll be ok on that front. Fingers crossed that I get into at least one of my top choices because then I won't have too much second guessing to do!

Haha I know I scare myself sometimes with the over organisation!

Erm I am a bit (well more than a bit!) paranoid about getting things done on time and my final year started this week and is gonna be very hectic from now till the end of the application cycle and so I was determined to get everything done before I started on my final year project and things.

I had all my app materials ready in about August and just put them into the various application forms as soon as they opened up. Since then I tried chasing Yale to update the GRE section of my application and they said 'Please be patient' so I gave up and am gonna sit tight till maybe mid Nov and then start chasing again! You can laugh at me...

At first I thought you had applied for a spring or summer admission, but WOW you got in all your fall apps already. Congrats. The down side of this is that you may have to wait a looong time.

Yeah it is a long wait but it will be November in a few weeks right? Hopefully because I submitted my apps so early they'll be some of the first reviewed but not sure if my being an international student means that's not necessarily true. Ah well!

Some schools have rolling admissions so you may hear back from one of those before the end of the year, but for some, they look at the applications in January after the winter break.

Any idea which schools have rolling grad admissions? Or is that department specific? Is there anywhere that I can find information about which unis/departments have rolling admissions?

I think its department specific. You may have to check with the department if they don't have any information about that on their website.
