On the verge of making a decision

Posted by Alyanumbers, 01 April 2011 · 203 views

So far, the only PhD program I got into has been NYU's. I have offers for master's at Edinburgh, SOAS and Columbia, but they're all unfunded, while NYU's funding me for 5 years. I also got rejected at Yale's and Columbia's PhD programs, which means I'm only waiting on Cornell, where, as far as I can tell, I am waitlisted.

I'm accepting NYU's offer if I don't hear from Cornell by tomorrow. I don't think I'm gonna get off the waitlist at this point, but I'm still waiting for the week to end before I take action.

This is so overwhelming! In a good way, but still! :)

If you got an acceptance at Cornell would you be likely to go there?
Hey, NYU is a GREAT school, I'm excited for you!
It's hard to say with certainty, but I do feel that the program at Cornell is a better fit for me than NYU is, as it is a Comp Lit prgram, as opposed to a Lit track in a Middle Eastern Studies department. I also get the impression, and other people have confirmed this for me, that Comp Lit programs are more competitive and demanding than ME Studies.
5 years funding is excellent though and NYU is a great school, so even if it's not your first choice, it's still a fantastic opportunity. Good luck with the decision!
Congrats Alyanumbers! Are you sure you don't want to wait just a little bit more? How about e-mailing Cornell's dept. first to get a better picture? Depending on what they respond, you can proceed to either accept NYU's offer or wait a little bit longer. You could ask Cornell's dept. whether you're wait listed and inform them that you have another offer but that you prefer Cornell's program and would like to know the status of your application before making your final decision. (If you're wait listed, they might appreciate hearing about your enthusiasm) Remember: you do still have until April 15th...
Hi Alya, I am in the same boat as you. I am waiting till April 15th to make my decision. I know that the possibility of you (and me) to get accepted/get off the waitlist in the other school may look slim now; but, we never know. Why dont you wait till April 15th?

Anyway, I think getting into NYU is impressive ;)
Cornell's Comp Lit department says on their website that they send all offers out by April 1, so I went ahead and accepted NYU's offer online. Honestly, I didn't want to keep hoping to hear from Cornell and then get disappointed. Plus, I need to start thinking about housing in NYC!

Congrats on the decision! Isn't it a great feeling to not be waiting any more?
When you think thomas sabo online shop about sparkle, the wedding celebration flowers might not be the earliest place that appear to mind, but there are many great methods that crystals and rhinestones could be utilized to embellish thomas sabo charms your bouquets and centerpieces. for that bridal bouquet, just one beautiful impact can be to produce a bouquet that consists of the traditional wedding celebration flower stephanotis. These small light flowers are traditionally accented with pearl tipped pins by method of the centers (their stems are as well short to take advantage of within a bouquet, so the pearl pins are thomas sabo outlet utilized to safe the blossoms to cable tv stems); for just about thomas sabo günstig any fabulous twist on an aged classic, have your florist use a crystal or rhinestone pin to bejewel the center of each and every stephanotis flower. The bouquet wrap could be also bejeweled by pinning a vintage crystal thomas sabo rings brooch to some broad satin ribbon. It is primarily a tasteful and stylish touch that will include lots of design and school for the bouquet.
Hey Alya! Great to hear about NYU! Well i am preparing to get in any of them!
NYU is an amazing school. I went there for undergrad psychology and am in the masters program in general psychology right now. The PhD program is phenomenal with experts in cognition, computational neuroscience, social psych, you name it. You'll definitely have opportunities to meet great people in the field and might even get a chance to publish-if you seek it out. There's a good community in the psych department and the Professors all strive to be very helpful. Their Doctoral Programs are the most competitive in the country so congrats for getting in! I'd go for it if I were you, hands down.
