  1. How do I not mentally check out of grad school for the next 2.5 months? Literally trying to talk myself out of making class time nap time.
  2. RT @LOLGOP: Republicans are so upset about changing Mt. McKinley's name you'd think Obama was giving it health insurance.
  3. Deferring a year, but going to Teachers College.
  4. Since they're doing this in waves, I wonder how the order is selected? I filled out my FAFSA almost two months ago at this point, and even double checked to make sure I had it sent to TC. I've checked my spam folders too, and nada. It's looking more and more like it'll be TC for me, which I'm excited about, but I'm getting a little anxious that we're rolling into the beginning of April and I've still not gotten an award letter. Glad to know I'm not the only one in this position!
  5. Wow, excellent advice soapwater! I am leaning more and more towards TC... I don't think I'll be able to make it for the admitted student days, but if I end up there in August it'd be cool to meet up with some of you! I like beer any day of the week.
  6. Hey all, Just a quick question to anyone here who might be enrolled in the AL program at TC. I was accepted to the MA program, and wonder what the differences in scheduling are. I know most classes are at night because of student teaching during the day, however, is it only the Ed.M students who do practicum teaching? As an MA, I see one practicum class in the requirements, but no other mention of regular student teaching to be done during my time there. Any insight on this would be fabulous and much appreciated. Sending many good vibes to my fellow linguists.
  7. I was accepted Feb 20th, but still no award letter. I'm afraid I'm going to get the loans only letter, which is a sad, sad thing because, like many of you, I am unwilling to go $100k+ in debt, even for Columbia.
  8. Also got my UMD rejection this AM, and I don't feel nearly as bad about it as I thought I would. Definitely better than not knowing until April, as it seems that has happened to people before according to the results page! Kudos to those who are getting acceptances.
  9. I've only heard from 1/4 of my schools, and won't know anything about financial aid until mid-March. As for the other three, I'm trying not to let myself get pessimistic. My best friend and I have agreed that if it doesn't work out this year, we're job hunting and moving in together. It's been really helpful to look at job/apartment listings in the event that things don't work out.
  10. I am still waiting too... More than likely for a rejection, but you never know! I called about a week ago and was told no decisions had been made and that they probably wouldn't be sending anything out until the end of March.
  11. No worries, only one of my schools has sent out decisions. Still waiting on the other three that had later deadlines.
  12. This is also a bit of a concern of mine. I am also a bit iffy because I have a small dog, and while pets are allowed in family housing, from what I can gather they are not allowed in single student housing. My other choices are in cities where I wouldn't need to live on campus, but given the price of living in NYC, living on campus for me would almost definitely be a necessity.
  13. I have to say, I'm surprised at some of the times between deadlines and decisions. Columbia's deadline was January 15th and I heard from them on February 20th - University of Pittsburgh was December 15th, and when I called I was told that no decisions have gone out yet for the MA candidates! Wah.
  14. Hi there, I just got accepted to Teachers College - financial aid will play a big role in deciding if I actually go, but it's still a great feeling.
  15. Not that I'm pushy or anything... but is there any chance the other admitted student to Teachers College for Applied Linguistics wants to squeal excitedly with me?
