  1. I found out today that I got into Lehigh. We're all going to make it you guys.
  2. Probably depends on when the applications were due and when the schools get around to contacting people (and not all schools interview). So if you have a school like a couple that I applied to that were late deadlines, by snail mail, and don't interview, you'll probably just get a physical letter (probably with a call from your POI if you get in). Have you checked the results search to see if anyone else has posted invites to the programs in question? There's also a thread somewhere about interview dates, so you could infer if you haven't heard back by that date that you are probably rejected.
  3. Found it: Stenstrom, D. M., Curtis, M., & Iyer, R. (2013). School rankings, department rankings, and individual accomplishments: What factors predict obtaining employment after the PhD? Perspectives on Psychological Science, 8(2), 208-217. Here's the abstract: I'm not sure what measure they used for department rankings though. Haven't read it in a while. EDIT: They used NRC rankings DOUBLE EDIT: And Carnegie Classifications
  4. There is a paper somewhere (trying to fish out the link) about PhD program as a factor in job placement. It's a big deal. You should absolutely do what you love, but go into this with your eyes open. Depending on your field, placement can be incredibly competitive. Are you cognitive? Social? IO? Clinical? In IO you'll be fine. It's in demand and the pay is great. Clinical is in the middle (the impression I get is that the bottleneck is PhD entry, not employment, but it's not my field so grain of salt). Cog and social are ridiculously competitive. There just aren't enough tenure track jobs. You need a backup plan so you don't end up flipping burgers (or worse, teaching as an adjunct for no benefits and terrible pay). I'll post that link as soon as I find it.
  5. Lehigh cognitive interview, please PM me your POI
  6. UNC - Feb 7 Arizona State (behavioral neuroscience) Feb 7-8 Northwestern, Feb 7-8 IU Bloomington, Feb. 7-8 U Iowa - Feb 8-10 WUSTL, Feb 12-14 NYU Feb 14/21 Western Michigan Feb 14-15 West Virginia Feb 14-15 U Chicago 2/15-2/17 Cornell: 2/21-22 University of Washington, Feb 21-22 Rochester: 2/21 Auburn (experimental), Feb 21-22 U Mich, Feb 21-22 Rutgers, Feb 28 UC Merced: 2/28-3/1 Cognitive: Northeastern: Feb 7-8 Brown: Feb 7 Pitt: Feb 20-22 Maryland: Feb 21 (90% sure on this one...I remember I couldn't make it because of a previous commitment to Pitt)
  7. Someone mentioned books: I think I'm going that route for two of my profs, and getting some really good coffee for the other one. But I'm not 100% on the coffee yet...
  8. Hey, someone posted an interview at Indiana (cognitive). Could you please PM me your POI? Many thanks.
  9. I'd go business casual: nice sweater, collared shirt, polo, sweater/shirt combo, tie if you feel like it, jacket if you feel like it. If you're anything like me, I would advise wearing nice pants and shoes as well. I say this because when I'm dressed nicely I feel like a freaking boss. It just puts me in the state of mind to really go out and crush it.
  10. While we're listing master's programs, Missouri State has an experimental psych MS program, and they can usually find assistantships for everyone that gets in.
  11. What are you doing between rounds to improve your application? This is round 2 for me, but I'm finishing up my Master's now.
  12. So just wondering...when you've been invited to interview somewhere, is it completely unprofessional to ask your POI how many people are invited to the interview? I'm just trying to get an idea of where I stand, because I'm sure it varies from school to school. Has anyone else done this?
  13. Good for you! Way to keep it up, this is round 2 for me For the person asking about Brown's CLPS invites, I'm not sure if all the invites are out or not. Wish I could help more. If you want to pm me your POI I can tell you if it's the same as mine.
  14. I would definitely send her a polite email to make sure you didn't fall through the cracks.
