  1. Hi guys, as you prepare for your MFA applications, it is always important to visit potential schools to get the feel for the program. Students at Yale Graphic Design MFA program are now offering a place where you can stay overnight and get an intimate look of what it's like to be an MFA art student at Yale. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/8921394?s=m4PafW9O We can also provide you with the tour of Painting, Sculpture and Photography departments that are situated nearby. This space is only available from Tuesday, Oct. 20 to Wednesday, Oct 21, 2015.
  2. Hello, I have a few questions regarding apartments in New Haven. Although everyone says that East Rock is a great location, it seems like you'll need a car to get home after late night classes. I'm an art major and will be spending late nights at the studio. What would be a good safe alternative a walking distance from the School of Art? I'll be flying in to New Haven for a week in July in hopes to find an apartment, do you think one week is enough time to find a place and do you have recommendation regarding which realtor I should use? What is the best way to find an apartment in New Haven, craigslist, realtor, university listings? Thank you for your input!
  3. I don't think calArts offers more than 20k. I've received 14k scholarship + 20.5k of loans. I know a student who received a 20k scholarship but that was maximum.
  4. Have you visited those programs? A lot depends on how you will fit into the program and what kind of feeling you get from professors and students. They all may look great on paper but you'll have a very different understanding after visiting each program in person. During my interview at RISD I've met a girl who was transferring form a 3 year MFA at CCA because she felt like there was no real community. Each graphic design MFA program is very different, think about your goals after MFA: is it working as a commercial designer or being a more conceptual designer who is interested in a multidisciplinary practice, or maybe you'd even like to teach. SAIC seems to be the stronger program out of those three. Check out what alumni and professors are doing and how does that align with your interests. Hope this helps.
  5. Although RISD is a great program, after my visit I was clear that Yale is a much better fit for me.
  6. Thanks, I'm going to Yale because it fits me the best. At UCSB is a fine art program, I'd have a lot of freedom to do whatever I want and I don't think I'll be as challenged.
  7. What kind of questions do you usually ask during the interview regarding the program. I find so may programs are very open ended and give you a lot of freedom which makes it harder to ask the faculty about specific things.
  8. How did you like UCSB's art department? I wasn't able to make it yesterday, will be visiting mid March.
  9. Yes, it is a full day program. We'll be meeting with the faculty and students, present our work, talk about our interests and motivations and meet with students who are interviewing. When are you flying in to Detroit? Maybe we can share a cab
  10. I called them to ask when they'd be sending out the interviews and the admissions told me that for Graphic Design Department it would be the week of Feb 23rd. I have mentioned that I'll be traveling to New England for my other interviews and would like to see the school even if I don't get an interview and she told me that if I do get selected she'd let me know as soon as possible so I can fit in the visit during my trip.
  11. Got a call from Cranbrook 2d design department today, interview scheduled on March 12
  12. I've applied to Graphic Design, but the advisor I spoke to was a general advisor, so you should expect to get your interviews in 2 weeks or so.
  13. I've just heard from RISD inviting me for the interview, they are still processing the applications and said that they will be sending the invitations on the week of Feb 23. I asked them to give me a tour since I'll be in that area for other interviews but they invited me to an early one to accommodate my trip schedule.
  14. What did your email say? In my email it just said to register for the an all day event at CalArts. I think it is just an overview of the program and not the actual interview where you have to present your work. But I might be wrong.
  15. Just heard from MassArt Dynamic Media Institute, invited for the interview on 02/26th
