  1. I'm a native Cincinnatian and current student at UC- been affiliated with the University for the better part of the last decade. What do you want to know about the school?
  2. University of Colorado-Boulder, Ph.D. Sociology
  3. Sweet! I am very interested in the CLASP (Language and Social Practice) certificate run out of Antrhopology by Kira Hall, so we'll probably meet at some point. Are you local to Boulder, or coming from a distance?
  4. Great username! Thanks for the advice- I was having a moment. I did visit Boulder, and part of what had won me over then was how happy all the students seemed. The professors I met were really cool, and the students seemed non-competitive and relaxed, and supported. Temple I know nothing about- Philly is the primary draw. But I will try to vosot and get a clear picture of my options before April 15. Thanks again. And just for giggles; I thought I would only be interested in urban ethnography, but after my trip to Boulder, I'm leaning toward researching health disparities in chornic but non-fatal STDs among racial and gender lines.
  5. After totally giving up on additional acceptances, I got an email from Temple today- I'm in! Now, I've already accepted at Boulder, and there isn't much that would convince me otherwise. But...my treacherous mind is going...you won't be a minority in Philly...you'll be close to all your friends...you'll be in a city your family has heard of...maybe? Someone, please, talk me down! I've been freaking out about race since the Barack Obama speech!
  6. Good luck! I'm glad to be done with this process. Hopefully, you'll hear soon. If it makes you feel better, their cohort is less than 8 this year, according to the letter.
  7. I got my rejection letter from Stony Brook yesterday in the mail- have you heard anything yet?
  8. I'm working up until two weeks before orientation...just like I've been doing for the last 10 years, since undergrad. Being old sucks.
  9. I haven't heard anything from Stony Brook one way or another- if I do hear, I'll let you know.
  10. I just got accepted to Colorad-Boulder, notification came via email late yesterday. Their Prospective Student Day was Feb. 29...so pretty quick turnaround. It's my first choice, so I accepted.

    Boulder, CO

I need to begin looking for an apartment, and I want something away from The Hill, near a grocery store and coffeeshop, if possible. Any suggestions?
  12. Anyone accepted? Anyone going? I just accepted an offer for the PhD Sociology program, coming from Cincinnati. Would love to connect with other future Buffs!
  13. Got rejected by Arizona in a letter that was less heart-stomping than some I've seen. Sociology PhD. Oh well, their like-minded faculty were all out of the country when I tried to contact them, so I never got a good feel for what they wanted. Fine, be that way! 3 down, 6 to go: current count, 1-2.
  14. I applied to nine schools: U of Arizona U Colorado-Boulder- Campus Visit next week, no word yet U of Cincinnati- accepted (my alma mater) Ohio State-not Sociology (they were mean during a campus visit; Applied to education instead) Emory Syracuse Temple UC- San Diego- big-time rejected SUNY Stony Brook I am joining everyone else in the nail biting and hope. I'm returning after 10 years, interested in language socialization and social capital/stratification, gender, urban, ethnicity...I'm hoping for three yesses, so I feel like I have a choice.
