  1. I've seen messages like that before. It means the transcript was printed poorly and the person trying to verify your app can't read information they are required to check in order to verify your app. In this case, sounds like your course prefixes are messed up. Contact your school and get a new, clean transcript sent ASAP!
  2. ^ THIS. Always give them a deadline with ample time to miss it before your REAL deadline. It will give you some breathing room and prevent a hang up on their end from impacting your application.
  3. After both undergrad and my first master's I ended up with $45k in loans. However, just as important as the loan amount is the interest rate. I consolidated after I got my degree and locked in a 2% interest rate, so once I started working I was able to pay down the principle pretty fast (plus its less painful to pay when you see that balance go down). You also can write the interest paid off on your federal (and in my case, again on my state) taxes which really boosts my tax refund. Do the research on your total borrowing, but also your interest rate and what your monthly payments will be like (and how much of that payment will go to interest for how long) before making a decision on how much is too much. Also whatever you do, don't get a variable interest rate - that will screw you. I know people who are paying credit-card level interest on their student debt and there is no end in sight for them. They are barely paying the interest.
  4. You might want to check out the CSDCAS GPA Instructions; it breaks down what numeric value they give your grades (ie. your school might say a B+ is a 3.5 but CSDCAS is a 3.3) and exactly how they do the math. Might help figure out where they got your numbers: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/e-submission-payment/grade-point-average-gpa-calculations/index.html
  5. You can submit without fall grades and update them on CSDCAS via academic update. This is a really important process to know about because with so many deadlines on Jan 1, most people don't have fall grades in yet when they submit their apps - you don't want to miss your deadline waiting for them! You can read the instructions for Academic Update here: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/e-submission-payment/updating-the-applicationacademic-update/index.html
  6. Yep. You can read more about how it works here: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/e-submission-payment/updating-the-applicationacademic-update/index.html
  7. I don't think how much debt is really the right question you need to be asking. What you need to determine is, assuming you start a job straight out of school, how much can you afford in monthly payments to the collector of the debt. This varies greatly on the type of loan you get, the interest rate, your income, and what your other monthly expenditures are, ie. rent, utilities, food, car payments, insurance, mortgage, other expenses, etc. What would your monthly payment be and could you afford it with your other expenses? How fast (or slowly) are you willing or able to pay it down? Considering this number is sitting on your credit report for X amount of time, how much would prevent you from obtaining other purchases you may need to make down the road like a car or a home loan? Thinking of it in those terms will give you a much better idea if you'd be comfortable with the debt than just the number as a whole.
  8. Keep in mind that the 5 slots for references are to allow you to apply to schools that have conflicting reference requirements (ie. school A wants an SLP, a professor, and a work supervisor and school B wants an SLP, a professor, and an advisor). There aren't any schools who actually ask for more than 3 and the chances of them reading more letters than they absolutely have to is slim to none - remember they are reviewing hundreds of apps! Before going for letter #4, you may want to make sure you have covered your bases in reference requirements, especially if all three of your letters are from professors currently.
  9. The only reason I can think of is if you're schools do not require GRE scores and you don't like your score, but the majority of your schools are going to require it, so I doubt that situation occurs often.
  10. Depends on the school in my experience. They usually will advertise if they allow pre-reqs (and how many) to be in-progress when applying. If not, its a good question to ask the school directly.
  11. Hello! I'm not familiar with the northeast programs, but for the transcript question you might want to check out CSDCAS' "how to send transcripts" section: https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/transcripts/sending-u-s-canadian-transcripts/index.html You do have to have them physically mailed to CSDCAS directly from your schools.
  12. You might want to talk to some of the people on the Physician Assistant forum, they offer good advice for applicants coming from different backgrounds: http://www.physicianassistantforum.com/index.php?/forum/441-pre-pa-general-discussion/
  13. You don't need to use the form ordering online; the CSDCAS instructions say what to do in that case under "How to Send A Transcript:" https://portal.csdcas.org/csdcasHelpPages/instructions-and-faq/transcripts/sending-u-s-canadian-transcripts/index.html
  14. I agree that sounds quite aggressive - and also implies that there are spots left for you. For all you know, they have already made offers and accepted a full class, and do not have a seat left no matter what reasoning you may use to "appeal." I think if the program is willing to provide feedback on why you didn't make the cut this year that is the best route to go; if you feel they may have been misinformed it creates the opportunity to perhaps point out a discrepancy without flat-out accusing the committee of being wrong about you, and no matter what gives you insight into how to improve your qualifications for re-applying in the future.
  15. It depends on why the program was placed on probation. Some programs get in hot water for things that don't impact the student experience, ie. record keeping or other administrative issues. Other programs get in trouble for more problematic things from the student's point of view, like access to clinical sites or quality of the curriculum. It might be worthwhile to try and find out why, though I'm not sure how'd you go about that - maybe try contacting CAA?
