  1. Congrats, emburst! That's a great honor in and of itself. Any idea how likely it is to get in off the wait-list (i.e. ranked, etc.)?
  2. ovalwriter, I second that emotion! Someone on MFADraft heard that they've made decisions and should be notifying by next week. (BTW: What exactly are they "offering"--apart from being an Ivy and a tiny cohort? Funding isn't stellar if my memory serves me...?)
  3. sandy bubbles, yes I do believe they are done notifying acceptances as well as wait-listers. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.... Don't give up hope, though; I never dreamed I'd get into Vandy.
  4. The plot thickens! To the Iowa insiders, can I assume that no news yet means a rejection is in the mail (i.e. no email or call of acceptance at this point)? I never expected to get in, but would like some closure nonetheless. On a separate note, I'm leaning strongly toward Vanderbilt (fiction) right now and was wondering if anyone out there has insight on the program and Nashville in general. I am thrilled just by the thought of Lorrie Moore, whom I adore. Thanks for all your help

Hi there, I'll likely be attending Vandy in the fall as well and have been doing some early apartment hunting. Is $795+utilities a decent price for a 1-bedroom apartment just off of campus? I haven't been able to find anything close by much cheaper for my own place. I paid a lot less while attending UVA, but that was sharing a house with other students. Just trying to get a sense of what is reasonable, maybe some alternatives? I'm not averse to room-sharing; location and safety are more my priorities. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  6. They offered me acceptance to the masters program, but I declined because of the cost

  7. Sorry I didn't notice your comments on my profile until just now. Did you end up getting out of UVA limbo?

  8. I'm an incoming English PhD student at UVA, and I too am looking into housing (from afar), and just applied to that CHUVA thing. Unfortunately I'm as much in the dark as you are. Hopefully someone can give us some advice. If you find any promising leads on housing, let me know. I'm more than open to housing with other new grads too. I've never been to Charlottesville before, but it sounds like a great place.
  9. I'll be declining Boston University, UMass Amherst, and Purdue (PhD Lit) as soon as I receive official notification (in the mail). Hopefully someone out there can take solace.
  10. Does anyone know how the on-campus housing for grad students at UVa is? Any recommendations for off-campus housing/areas?
  11. Okay, it was me! And believe me, if I can get off that wait list, anything is possible. I had lots of rejections from lesser schools. Needless to say, I am ecstatic. All those agonizing weeks of waiting paid off!
  12. disregard my insane grammar. I have abominable editing habits.

  13. I saw your post on the UVA topic, and realize we have went very similar routes in our user name choices. I'm also waiting to hear back from Virginia, but, strangely, I'm not in any hurry. I like to feel like I'm still in the running.

  14. Has anyone heard anything from Virginia lately? I know several people have mentioned that applications are still under review, though there are some acceptances/rejections up on the results page. I am going to assume it's an implicit rejection for me.
