  1. Incorrect. CUNY English now admits 20 PhD students every academic year. It was significantly more (40?) a decade ago when the funding wasn't what it is now. 341 applied last year. 40 offers were initially made. (This includes 25 funded offers and 15 or so waitlisted offers.) Our entering class was 20 when I came into the program for the Fall of 2017. This should not have changed, but we are now in talks to give offers to students who wish to pursue the program part-time. Do what you can with 26.1k though.
  2. I got off the CUNY Graduate Center's waitlist! I'm in! I'm a Victorianist! Thank you, Victorianist/Romanticist who declined their offer!
  3. Yes, I was at the open house. I didn't chat much though. Introversion and all. When I last spoke to Professor Schaffer on Wednesday morning, she told me she would send another round of e-mails to admitted candidates Thursday (yesterday). This wait is agonizing.
  4. I am. I created a thread specifically for the CUNY Grad Center. It's my top choice. A lot of the admitted applicants there haven't made a final decision yet. Fingers crossed.
  5. Hey there! Was curious if there are any applicants to the CUNY graduate center here. I was waitlisted on Valentine's day and it's my top choice. I've seen a few post results on the CUNY page, but none here. Anyone going there? Anyone going to turn down their admittance? It would help! From what I've been told, not many have solidified their acceptance... To those already studying there, any experience from getting off the waitlist?
  6. From my experience, they usually put up the dates and the form to register for it in the summer, around late July. Most PhD programs are phasing out the subject test thankfully. Most DGS tell me those scores are less significant now.
  7. Does anyone know how big a waitlist usually is? My first choice - the CUNY Grad Center - got more than 300 applicants and will only admit 25, and I hear they usually only allow about 2 from each specialization (e.g.: modern). I'm a Victorianist and I'm waitlisted so I wonder how big a waitlist usually is during the admissions process? About the same number they will admit? Half? Any ideas from your own personal experience?
  8. I'm waitlisted at the CUNY Grad Center. They will admit 25 this admissions cycle, and a grand total of 306 individuals sent applicant packages. The GC usually only gets about 200, and the director of the program mentioned to me that that this has been the most competitive admissions cycle yet, but are strongly hoping I get in. I am a Victorianist with a strong interest in Condition-of-England novels, with secondary interests in working-class literatures/narratives, and eco critical literary studies and disability studies. Fingers crossed!
  9. I've been waitlisted at the CUNY Grad Center. Found out yesterday. 306 people sent packages! I'm a Victorianist! So close! I'll be going to the Open House on March 17th. Typically, they only extend offers to about 20, but I was told 25 yesterday for this admissions cycle. The portal does not update for those waitlisted. It didn't for me at least. There are MAs at CUNY, but for other programs. You can get an en-route MA in the program.
