  1. I got a reject from UMD (Why? Why? Why?) and an admit from CMU. I wish they would quantify the admissions process. Or perhaps not, because I feel that the CMU admit was because of my industrial experience.
  2. In my long and illustrious academic life I have noticed that this attitude is not restricted to online forums. A majority of the students tend to downplay their performance/ preparation. Before/After an exam, preparation/performance questions are almost always answered by "I don't know anything"/"I am going to fail". Maybe because the whole environment is so damned competitive. I have a funny incident about recommendations. A lecturer, who I was in the good books of, agreed to write me a recommendation. The recommendation was online and the lecturer was notified by mail. She kept postponing the recommendation and a couple of days before the deadline admitted that she had deleted the notification. The college has no option to send a reminder and since I had already sent my application package I could not send a paper copy. The admission office was sympathetic and agreed to accept a faxed copy. But my status still says "Application Incomplete".
  3. Hello everyone. I have been admitted to CMU's program. This is a professional Masters which requires a minimum of two years work experience. This program also has no structured financial aid. The tuition at CMU is really high and I have to take a heavy loan to pay it. I really loved the course and the faculty. Since CMU as such has a good brand name, it should be easy to find a job after the program. I wonder is its viable to take this course of action or should I cut my losses and join this other school which has a cheaper tuition and aid but was my back up more than anything. Also I heard some rumors that the current financial unstability might be a problem w.r.t the loan. Is that true?

    CMU

Hello! I have been admitted into the MSE(Master of Software Engineering) program at CMU. Has anyone else been admitted to the same program or the university? I would definitely like to talk to some people here and share their opinion on everything.
  5. I just got an admit into CMU. BooYeah! Now we are talking.
  6. That mailbox story was funny stuff. Right now I am switching from being paranoid to plain depressed. One reject from UMD and no response from the others. With is being march 15th already, every day my hopes die out a little. I dont have much hope left anyways.
  7. A rejection from UMD today. I was really hopeful about this college and they have such a nice program. I actually read many of their research papers, contacted the lecturers, specified which area I want to do research on. All for nothing. I have some work experience too. What do they need? Everyone can not have research experience. Why do they assume that there is no learning involved in working! I am damned sure I have know a lot more about that subject than some of the people they have admitted.
  8. Yep. You are right, I was logging in with the wrond ID. I actually sent them like a million mails to check up and finally ended up calling them and discovered that it was my stupidity. By what cracks me up is that after all that effort, I was rejected. The status says "Not recommended for admission". I am wondering if its polite to call them and ask them for a reason. Being rejected SUCKS. In one day I lost all my confidence and slid into a depression.
  9. Other than the usual checking mail a crapillion times a day and haunting this forum. I have: - Joined the gym to try and gain some strength and stamina. I am a weakling - Go to those used book shops and buy the cheapest fiction available.(Not a good idea, most books were absolute trash) - Catch up on all my fantasy and SF reading. Damned, I love fantasy and SF. - Calling and mailing everyone I have always wanted to but procrastinated. - Started playing a couple of MMORPGs, they are fun and dont really require your attention. - Trying to find some people I can play football with.
  10. @Antigone I feel your pain. Does it comfort you that there are thousands of us who havent heard from any program and are growing more and more desperate by the second?? I feel that the status has to be informed via the web site first. The hard copy can take its time coming.
  11. We are in a similar situation. Cheers to waiting indefinitely while chewing our fingers to little stubs. So any response yet? In the worst case scenario, do you think that if you get rejects from all your programs will you be able to continue with your current job like nothing ever happened?
  12. Boo Yeah! An admit from NJIT is on the way. Even though it was my last choice among the universities I have applied to. I now have an option to fall back on. Any one has any idea how good the university is? I liked the program and the research going on in the Software Engineering department. UMD Rant: Maryland is supposed to be one among the top universities in the US. The status on the website says that a decision has been made regarding the application and will be snail mailed to me in two or three weeks. They also provide a link to check the application status. I am not able to login to check my status. I get an error message asking me to contact the webmaster. There is an Email address and a phone number, both of which are non functional. E Mails bounce and on phone I get an error message saying its a non working number. Great; I am going to die of aneurysm in a couple of days. Plea to CMU: Oh please send me an admit. Please, pretty please! They have the *best* program ever. I would sell half my soul for an admit there. To people who have received an admit there: beware of the green monster. *Edited to rectify typos.
  13. Congrats to people who recieved admits. I am the "Everyone Else" of the topic.
  14. I am a complete wreck. I have applied to six grad schools. NONE of them have replied. I come here and find that people have begun recieving admits by the hundreds. My job has become pathetic after I informed my boss about my decision to go to grad school. No interesting work is being given to me, I get all the trash work there is. .... Is it time to hit the panic button? Anyone else in this situation? Accepted: Zilch Waiting: CMU, NCSU, UMD, Rutgers, T A&M, NJIT(My failsafe) Damn, I gotta come up with a plan B.
