  1. Hello! I'm thrilled to have just received an acceptance to Howard University! I've tried searching the boards to see if there is a current discussion about Howard, but it's not a very popular topic. Is there anyone else out there interested in attending Howard? What programs are you in? Do you have any advice about relocating to DC? Thanks, and good luck!
  2. Has anyone heard from Case? I tried sending an email to the department but have not received a response. Thanks, and good luck!

    Charlotte, NC

Charlotte's a great city. I have some friends who lived in an apartment complex within walking distance of campus for about $300/month. The units were 4 bedroom/4 bath (each set had its own locking door) with a shared kitchen and living room. You may have to call around, but some of the units are reserved for graduate students and provide a quiet, studious atmosphere. The complex is literally right across the street from the campus. There's always something to do. The city has a great parks system. You can usually find plays for pretty cheap, if you're into that. There's also a decent music scene. Congratulations on your acceptance, and enjoy Charlotte!
  4. I actually just reread Anne of Green Gables. When I'm stressed, I look for comfort books. It's so bad I almost went back through the entire series. The only thing holding me together right now is the release of Final Fantasy 13 tomorrow night, which is conveniently during Spring Break. Hooray for distractions and fortuitous timing. Oh, and the meeting with a career counselor that I've scheduled towards the end of the month. Hopefully she can help me pick up the pieces.
  5. I was the poster who gave the figure. It was included in the very nice rejection letter I received on Tuesday. They said they had over 220 applications for 11 funded positions.
  6. I'm not sure what it means, but it may be department specific. I'm applying for English and I'm still in "AcadRev". Good luck!
  7. I like to bake cakes as a stress reliever. Between fretting about completing apps last fall and anxiety about results this semester, I've gained a few pounds. So has my husband. And my students. And my co-workers...
  8. I'm another person who teaches at a tesp prep place. The first time I took the GRE (many years ago, without reading anything about the test beforehand), I got a 3 on the AWA section as well. I wrote a wonderfully detailed, cohesive and slightly sarcastic essay. Unfortunately, that's not what they were looking for. Once I was more familiar with the test, I took it again in preparation for the application process. The second time I received a 5.5 for a stiff, uninspired, cardboard sham of an essay. As everyone else is explaining, the GRE AWA section is just another hoop to jump through during the application process. Imagine how great we're all going to be at acrobatics by the time this is done!
  9. The 'rejected' replaced the 'under review' that had kept me company for so long. I sort of long for the days when SUNY Buffalo was still a potential dream, but it's also nice to have a sense of completion. Congratulations to the people who have been accepted and to those that are still under review!
  10. The SUNY Buffalo installment of the waiting game is over for me. I checked the website and found 'reject'.
  11. "Onset-neurosis"?! I think some of us already have a full blown case.
