  2. I was waitlisted at three and got into one program. That's the program I'm attending now. I removed myself off of one of the waitlists.
  3. I applied to 10 last year. I got 3 waitlists and 1 interview. One of them turned into an acceptance.
  4. Unsure about CSU Northridge, but SF state gets fewer applications in general because of their earlier deadline. Out of the 3 CA schools that I applied to last year, I only got an interview with them last application season. I'm currently enrolled out of state at a school that doesn't charge out of state tuition. Good luck!
  5. Update: Ended up contacting places via phone and got pictures from an apartment management rental company listed on my university's website. Signed the lease in person on move-in day after viewing it in person. Probably wouldn't recommend this option if you have a lot of money or financial support from family, but this ended up being the best option for me and I was thankful I saved the extra money to put towards new furniture, homeware, and books for school which added up quickly!
  6. Well, it depends on what your preferences are. Many ABA companies require availability during after school hours, so it could technically be possible to work both positions at once. I had a friend who worked part-time first with ABA, and then got a full-time position at a school. It's also possible to work in schools only or at schools and/or in homes with ABA. I believe this depends on the company or what openings there are. I work in both school and home settings with my company. This will depend on where you work, but personally, I prefer ABA because my position is more flexible than my job was as a para. I don't have to go in at the same time every day since my schedule fluctuates in the week, working with different kids with my company. I also felt that the training and support I got (which is ongoing) with my company was much better than it was working at a school.Try to find some reviews of different companies or school districts in your area. I decided to work with a local ABA company and it's much better than the other larger ones in my area. On the other hand, there's lots of driving if you're not at the same school all day. If you don't like driving, I don't suggest working in-home. Good luck in your job search! Either option would be great experience for SLP grad school.
  7. I second this. Some schools are strict with the rules and won't make exceptions. I suggest calling or emailing to ask the department about the requirement and/or apply anyway since this is your dream school.
  8. Your story is actually extremely similar to mine as well. Similarly, I also have a learning disability. I have ADD and I wrote about this in my essays. I believe that revising my essays made the difference to help me get an acceptance this year, as well as applying broadly throughout the U.S.I also went to community college, didn't really have a plan, but when I transferred I kicked my butt into gear and managed to get a 3.7 CSD gpa (3.4 overall). I graduated in 2015, applied to 3 California schools, got all rejections and was devastated and felt lost. I got advice from a friend from undergrad and revamped my application. I completely overhauled my resume and personal statements and had over 7+ people revise/give feedback (including grad students and SLPs). I retook the GRE, scored 7 points higher and applied to 10 schools, this time 7 out of state. I also applied to a SLPA program last fall, but they randomly selected applicants and I was waitlisted and not accepted. For grad school, I got into one program off the waitlist, was put on the waitlist for 2 other programs, and was rejected by the rest. Thanks for sharing your story! It's awesome to read about others' journeys to grad school. Congratulations on all your hard work!
  9. I also sent you a private message.
  10. I worked as a paraeducator in a school setting and later found a job as an ABA therapist. I highly prefer the ABA position I have now because I have the opportunity to target communication and behavior goals during sessions, written by the behavior analyst, that are more similar to a what speech therapist might work on. My company allows us to work in schools and/or in homes working with different kids, which is extremely useful because you get to learn about working with different ages, personalities, and spectrums of autism. It's also a really fun position, but can also be stressful. I recommend getting experience or shadowing with different settings like schools, hospitals, or private practices to see what you might be interested in. Most of my classmates went on to work in the same positions I did and a few also went the SLPA route.
  11. Thanks! I will definitely check out that website. That is a relief to hear. Thanks! I have another question I just thought of. I was thinking about calling places 4-6 weeks in advance to possibly set up tours. Is this a good timeframe?
  12. Great, I'll contact my university's off-campus apartment suggestions first. I'm weary of craiglist since it's in a new town. Although I did find my current job on craigslist but that's a different story though, lol. These are all great options, that's really helpful advice about paypal! I hadn't thought of that. I'm leaning heavily towards option B currently and staying a week ahead of time. I'm gonna try to save up as much as I can if there's any way possible because I'm worried 1 week won't be enough time to find a place! @Louly I will definitely do that. Thanks! @SLPSingBalls I'm wondering the same thing! I was hoping that showing my employment history and loan information would be enough, but I won't be able to find a new job (same with hubby) while we're out of the state. Has anyone else gone through this?
  13. I can't live on campus since they don't allow pets and I'm bringing our dog. Thanks for the advice about the city guide, it's in a small town so hopefully I'll be able to get some advice there. I'm looking into the off campus options that are listed on my university's website as my best bet. I'm just worried about finding a place without seeing it... currently thinking that moving earlier is a better option since it's cheaper.
  14. I'm going to be moving out of state with my husband and our dog. I was wondering, how does one go about apartment hunting while living out of state. Unfortunately, on-campus apartments are not an option since we have a dog. I was thinking we would need to either plan a visit ahead of time to check out places ($1200+ in airfare), or we could just move out earlier, say July, and apartment hunt while staying in the town ($700 for a week stay) and plan to move in ASAP during our visit. What are your guys' thoughts and suggestions?
  15. I'm looking for a group for Minot State. Is anyone else attending?
