  1. I fear this is far too late, but the Persian program at UW is going strong right now. There are three superb instructors and up to four years of courses. Please PM if you have any further questions.
  2. Hi greengoose. I didn't apply to the PhD at UW, but I did study for my BA there. This included enrolling in some graduate coursework and getting to know a lot of the PhD students in the History Department, where I was also a student. I'll never run out of positive things to say about the department and my professors there. If you tell me what you intend to focus on, I may be able to give you some specifics, provided I know your proposed advisors. Let me know!
  3. US PhDs also seem to be much more intensively supervised, and they usually come with the benefit of the free MA en-route. I really wouldn't consider staying in the UK unless full funding was guaranteed and I already had a US MA.
  4. Yes, I think my advisor recommended teaching during the third and fifth years. Central Asia? That's actually not far from my focus. At the moment, I'm deciding between Iran-Caucasus-Russia or Iran-Central Asia. Do you work with any Central Asian languages?
  5. I'll see you there! Well, at least I hope I will. I was planning on going abroad for some language training at that time, but I really want to meet some professors and the other admitees. Have you received the "detailed" letter on funding and teaching requirements? I'm still waiting on it, but (I think) they said we may need to wait until the 20th.
