  1. Hi everyone, I'm trying to decide between NYU and Columbia for a degree in Data Science. There isn't much info available about these programs online because theyre quite new, so I wanted to attend the admitted students day for each program before making my decision. The problem is that Columbia's decision deadline is right before NYU's open house. Would it be a terrible idea to ask for an extension in this case? I'm not sure how serious it is to do that. I currently go to NYU so I have a general idea of what it's like there already, so maybe it isn't worth it. Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone, I'm trying to decide if I should attend either NYU or Columbia's Data Science program next year. Neither school gave me financial aid, which I expected. Also, both programs are relatively new and cost about the same. With data science programs being so new, there isn't really and info on the internet that I can find comparing schools so I'm hoping to find someone else who is/has been in a similar position to offer some advice NYU pros: I'm already a student at NYU so it's a familiar place/I already have friends, Courant is very good and in the program you're allowed to take a lot of math classes as electives, the curriculum has more room for electives/specialization cons: Program is generally 2 years long, less prestigious than Columbia, worried about getting my grad degree from the same place as my undergrad Columbia pros: Ivy league school, program seems more grounded in math (Probability/Statistics are part of the curriculum- though this might just be because they dont expect students to know this coming in?), program can be completed in a year if I want, 1.5 years at most, professor quality may be better? cons: Unfamiliar, less room for electives, will be taking less classes that I will at NYU (30 vs 36 credits) but paying around the same Thanks for taking the time to read Any advice is really appreciated, thanks!!
