  1. I do not think there is any problem with asking or additional funding, as long as you are respectful in your request. One of my offers did not include health insurance, and the other did. I asked my POI if there was any way for the program to pick up the cost of my premium through the graduate student insurance plan, and she said that there was not, but that she would try to find a mechanism to add extra money to my stipend so that I can buy my own insurance on the healthcare exchange. The program director OKed it, although I am waiting for details on how that money will be dispersed. They have said it is complicated to add funds to standardized stipends, especially at state schools, but when there is a will, sometimes there ca be a way. Good luck!
  2. Hi, I've been informed that I'm #1 on a waitlist for a PhD prorgram, and that if I can wait a few more weeks, I may have more information. The program director told me that they didn't feel they could extend a first round offer because I don't have a master's degree, but acknowledged that I am a very strong research fit and would fit in well with the culture and mission of the school. If the program made three offers for three spots, how likely (based on what you've heard or your experience, etc.) is it that one person will decline? All of the applicants seemed very competitive at the interview.
  3. @kma19, I've also been accepted to UNC, and I, too, am concerned about waiting until April 1 to visit. Are other people considering scheduling their own visits?
  4. It was an email from the graduate school to check the website for the decision, and there was a link to the letter there. It did not tell me who my advisor would be...but I am eager to find out! I applied to work with a few people. Hope you hear soon.
  5. I received notification and was admitted on Friday (2/5). It was an email from the graduate school to check the website for the decision. Not sure what you are applying for- I applied for the MSPH to PhD program. I haven't received any information about funding, but I have another offer, and I am eager to hear from them about options. I'll probably wait a week or so and then touch base with the department admin. Does anyone know about funding for MSPH to PhD programs at UNC Gillings?
  6. I received an email to check the website and was accepted to the MSPH to PhD program in HB on Friday (2/5). I'm not sure about other departments, or funding! Any current students/former or current applicants have any idea about funding for this program?
  7. To the person who posted the rejection from Brown today (Health Services Research), did you attend recruitment day last week?
  8. Brown sent out invites earlier this month, and recruitment day for all tracks is 1/29.
  9. Has anyone heard from OSU since the in-person interviews a few wks ago?
  10. I feel like I will be at a significant disadvantage because I am not able to attend a casual dinner with graduate students the night before an interview day. How common is this kind of schedule conflict, and what kinds of strategies can I use to get to know the current students (and for them to get to know me), without attending the social event? I know students play at least some role (and that it varies depending on the school) in the admissions process, and it's also extremely valuable to learn more about the program and fit through their perspective. I would really like to attend, but the flight schedule did not match up. Any and all tips are appreciated!
  11. Has anyone heard from Florida? Typically, it seems like they send their invites about 1 mo in advance.
