  1. Congrats DWG! I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply to you in time, but it looks like you've done just swell! I got my accepance tonight as well! Some final thoughts for future applicants, because I disnt see a spring thread perusing the boards before: This application Season was FAST. This program historically seems to have difficulty organizing their admissions process, but that may be exclusive to the fall. Also noted that the admissions director this semester claimed she was not on admissions before, so it may be either the difference in volume ~200 vs ~500 or simply better administrators.
  2. So, I had my interview today. Ms. Grey (interim admissions director) was the facilitator. Questions included: 1) What population would you be least interested in working with and why? 2) Provide a definition for vulnerable populations & what are two vulnerable populations and what makes them vulnerable? 3) What are YOU bringing to Hunter? 4) Why should we admit you to Hunter? 5) How are you a helper in your life? What do you think of the role social workers play in helping others? The writing sample was about social welfare implications of reducing food deserts. I too found myself feeling dicey about it. They want two paragraphs, but there is little time to read, reflect on the reading and plan the writing and WAY too little space for 2 cohesive paragraphs (1 of my written paragraphs is nearly the amount of space they allotted us). An interesting insight was that 60/190 applicants are being taken this semester. If 2/3 of applicants made it past the application stage, this would mean that so long as you performed in the top half of your interview pool, that you would be admitted. Granted, that's mighty speculative... but for those of us speculators, maybe useful. I was also informed that our interview performance would be forwarded to review by tomorrow. and that ALL decisions pertaining to admission for spring will be made by December.
  3. I got my "pending interview" today! Haven't heard potential dates yet, but I'm incredibly excited.
  4. Congrats! Judging from the pattern so far, it seems interview invitations go out Late Wednesday-Thursday.
  5. DWG, this was the only accelerated program I applied to. All the applications for Fall don't even open until November (Lehman College, Queens College). I thought of applying to NYU, but even if they were to give me a significant amount of money (30k), it would still be incredibly difficult to Justify the long-term cost, so I didn't even bother. So, this is the only one I'm waiting to hear from. I have some hope in the fact that Olayak's application wasn't even processed until yesterday. I've heard Hunter's process takes forever and is kind of nuts, so I feel a little bit reassured.
  6. Congrats you guys! I sure hope there will be a few more opportunities for interviews being sent out...
  7. It seems really really mixed with some people hearing within a couple weeks and then others hearing nothing until the last couple days. It seems their track record in terms of organizing the process is super bad, but I hope with less applicants to wrangle in the Spring, things should be better. When I went in person, I was told I could Expect a decision by early Dec. Tips on group interviews: Keep calm. Being with other, calmer people really manages to highlight anxiety during the interview. My understanding of these group interviews is that they at least feel very relaxed and low-stakes. The other point I would make, is make sure to answer as many of the questions asked as possible. They want to both see that you're an engaged individuals and whether you have the critical skills needed to tackle the issues at hand.
  8. Yeah. I've been looking at some of the questions that have been posted here, and what people felt about the questions and related answers. I actually feel very confident about the interview as a lot of my previous training was related to conflicts of interest and researcher/subject therapist/client relations. I know exactly why I want to be a social worker and exactly why I want Hunter, so those should be easy questions to answer. I assume that there will still be group interviews. When I went to inquire about the admissions process for the spring, they said 200 people apply typically, 60 of whom are accepted. BTW I notice my application went from "not complete" to "complete" today @4:50. So, here we go! Hopefully we'll both hear soon.
  9. No, but I can tell you CCNY is an oppressive place to work, and feels like a prison. Have you checked out either campus? Be Sure to check out the main building at each location and see which you prefer.
  10. DWG, I just submitted today. Sadly, I wasn't able to attend that session. I suppose I got somewhat personal in my personal statement, albeit briefly. I don't have a BSW, so a good deal of my personal statement was spent on describing the reasoning for my career transition and how my skill sets are transferable. I have a year worth of related work experience and most of a PhD, so here's hoping they'll have some mercy/think I'm amazing. I really want into this program. I'm applying to the full-time accelerated, so the only option is direct practice with individuals and families.
  11. DWG, Thanks for the input. I actually went in-person, and it turns out that the recs are in the supplemental materials. *phew* I went to one of the info sessions, but that was many moons ago, when I first thought of applying. I think it was a pretty good run down of the methods and programs offered, but I don't recall it covering much more than that. I think there's one this week (Thursday?), so I may well go again.
  12. Hey Dreamwithguts, Do you know whether our recommendation have to be in by the 1st of October or the 1st of November? I'm hoping to get my recs in order, but the application site doesn't note what they mean by "supplemental materials." -Thumb
  13. Hey Dreamwithguts, I'm likely to start my application within the coming week. I'm Applying at Silberman and Arizona state (close to fam there), but have to say my preference is for Silberman, asI live in NYC and would like to remain here.
