Hello everyone,
I am in this bizarre dilemma of choosing between MBA and PhD in Business. I recently got into a top MBA program in Canada. Since I am an international student, MBA is very expensive option for me especially with a high interest paying student loan that I am taking. My purpose of the MBA: to build a network, to get a high-paying job to kickstart my life in a foreign country and to know about the Financial service industry.
However, my ultimate desire lies in academia. My undergrad is in Business from a local university (South Asian). (I do have 3.9 GPA in my majors and a decent GRE Score (90th percentile in quant)).
Now I am exploring the following options:
1. Get enrolled in the MBA. Start networking with professors of the B-school already and get involved in their research project while in school. After finishing the 1-year MBA, get some experience and pay-off debt and come back to school (with better financial health I believe I can aim at good PhD programs in both Canada ad US).
2. Reject the MBA offer. Apply to MSc programs in Canada and get into a PhD after that. (Upside: Very minimal expenses, Downside: Job prospect is minimal in case PhD does not work out)
3. Apply to PhDs right now with this profile.
I would be very much grateful, if I could get some insights about my situation! Thanks in Advance!!
