  1. Hiii! Well, it's been a while since I got my acceptance, but I only just noticed this thread. So I was returning from a wedding, and although I had been in a hyper-aware state when it came to my phone buzzing because of the whole waiting for decisions thing, the decisions were put out of my mind because of the wedding. I casually checked my phone and saw a mail from something called the ISSS (International Students Something Something) at one of the universities I had applied to. I opened it and found that the mail was asking me to start Visa process. I was annoyed for a minute thinking this was some cruel joke because I hadn't received any sort of admit from anywhere. I checked the application page when I got home (Hardest half hour of my life!). One of the other people who got an offer for the same program as me got a mail to look for housing before he got the mail telling him about the decision. I'm waiting for more decision, but it really is validating. I'm not entirely useless! The mail telling me that a decision has been uploaded on the application page reached me the next morning.
  2. Thanks for your reply! I did mail them. I got an almost immediate response (which I wasn't expecting considering it's peak admission season). In case if anyone else was wondering, there is no deadline, though they stop processing the I20 Visa after June 1st. Yay. Okbye.
  3. Hi, I don't know if this is how I'm supposed to do it, but I'd love to know about the admits to Robotics programs in a little more detail than the survey site affords, along with where else people have applied and what kind of priority different universities are at. I'm sorry if there's a thread for this somewhere else.I didn't find it. To start off, I have an acceptance to the M. Eng. Robotics program at UMD, College Park. If anybody knows about this program and can review it, that would be a big help. I have applied to several other places, but of those, the ones I would prefer over UMD are CMU (MSR and MRSD), Michigan (The MS Robotics program), Yale (MS Mechanical with concentration in Robotics), Columbia (same as for Yale) and Rice (same as for Yale). I am from a Mechanical engineering background. Oh, and I'm an international applicant. This is my first time applying. Thanks for your replies! P.S. I'm pretty sure CMU has sent out admits and also informed waitlisted candidates. I saw some posts about this on the survey page. Does this mean the people who haven't heard from them (read: Me) have been rejected?
  4. Hi, I have been offered admission to the M.Eng. in Robotics program at The University of Maryland, College Park. In the acceptance letter, I was directed to a link where I could accept/reject the offer. However, neither in the acceptance letter, nor in the following link was there a deadline for when I have to accept or decline by. I am unsure about what to do, as I would like to wait for decision from some of the other universities I have applied to. If anybody knows, please let me know till when I must decide about the admission offer. Also, should I mail the graduate department at UMCP about this? Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi, I don't ahve any experience in LoRs, really, but I have been obsessing over my applications for months now. I have spoken to several people about each step of the process and hope that I can be of some help. Why do you think this? I don't see any reason why there would be a negative effect. Your teacher has presumably left to teach somewhere else, or for some other reason. In any case, she was your teacher for the course, and if the course is related to what you want to study ahead, you shouldn't hesitate to ask for a letter regardless of what the professor is doing at this time.
  6. Hi, I am an undergraduate student studying mechanical Engineering. I am looking to apply for MS for Fall 2016, and so I have done a lot of research on both MS and PhD application processes. Your profile is very strong, considering your publications and your GPA. From what I know, it is up to the student to find a PhD guide in most universities. So what i would suggest is to decide exactly what field you want to work in, look for the most recent publications in that field, and approach the professors who have been working on these publications. These people are your best bet as PhD guides. They will be able to tell you whether you will be accepted by the university where they teach as well. The process usually goes like this, you apply to the professor, you may have an interview or two, the professor will then decide whether they think you are a good PhD candidate. If they decide to guide you, you should then apply to the university specifically stating that this professor has agreed to be your mentor. Even if the university doesn't expect you to do this, you should approach professors first, because this will greatly improve your chances of acceptance. If the professor thinks you will be an asset to his or her research, naturally, they will push for your admission. With your profile, I would suggest applying to top mech universities, like Virginia Tech, UPenn, Georgia tech, Stanford, UMich etc. But I still suggest looking for professors through recent publications and not on the basis of their university, since this will be better from a research point of view. Good luck.
  7. Hi, I am also looking for Robotics Programs and am doing a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. I have been looking for these programs for a while now, and although I am not very hopeful for myself (being an international student with a cgpa of 7.18/10), I can tell you one thing with certainty, your profile is very strong. If there is one thing that might trouble you it is your quant score in GRE since most engineering universities are looking for 168 or more on 170, but that too isn't a big problem considering your total GRE score is very high. Same goes for your AWA score. That said, there are many many programs that you can apply to with this profile. The best place, without a doubt, is Carnegie Mellon University. They do accept students with a Mechanical background, as do most robotics programs. After CMU, I have seen that the best robotics programs are offered at UPenn, University of Michigan, University of Texas, Austin, MIT, Georgia tech, Penn State University. You can also check out mechatronics programs at places like Yale University and University of Maryland as well. Some of the easier colleges would be Boston university and Worcester Polytechnic university. Honestly, I am still looking for tier 2 universities, which I may have hope of getting into. But the top level colleges all seem to have good programs for robotics, specifically with mechanical engineering masters programs. Good luck.
