    Plan B?

I have applied to several MTS degree in the US and I graduated from my BA on December 2014. Ever since then I have been teaching English in an English School here in my country. Surprisingly, there have been three other teachers who also graduated from theology related major, one of them is from the US and the other two from the UK. You might want to take a look at this kind of job.
  2. Hi Ya'll. I have been lurking around this forum for some time and I can hardly find any thread about international student who applied to study Religion in the US. Do you mind taking a look at my stat and what do you think of my chances to get accepted at a University in the US. SO basically, I graduated from an Islamic University in Indonesia in December 2014, My major was Islamic Law and Politics and my GPA was 3.86. As an international student I have to pass either TOEFL or IELTS test and fortunately I have passed it. I got 7.5 out of 9 which is sufficient for me to apply to HDS, Columbia, Boston University and GW (I am planning on taking Islamic Studies). Currently I am studying for GRE which I'm about to take around November. I studied Arabic for six years when I was in Middle school and HIgh school, but I only did a semester of Arabic in University. However because I was very active in organization during my Undergraduate years, For the past four years, I led one National Organization and one Provincial Organization, and I have initiated quite a lot of social projects. Because of that my arabic become very rusty, I am well aware of the grammatical rule, but my vocabulary is limited. I also did not have a lot of experience in term of writing in English because of my organization activity. My writing is good enough for IELTS, but I am not sure for the GRE though, I am currently studying for it. Other than that, I also have worked in different projects with the UN, Government of the US, and United Cerebral Palsy. I also did two research during my Undergraduate years, one of it was presented at a graduate seminar. What do you guys think of my stat? I guess my problem is that I think I had too much organization experience which led me to not having enough experience in actual academic coursework. Also, what other schools do you recommend me to apply, I want to continue studying Islamic studies with the concentration on the use of violence and jihad in Islamic Law. Thanks yall!
  3. Hi ya'll! I am an international student from a country in Asia and I'm planning on continuing my study in the United States. I have been studying Islam for the past four years in college and another 6 years in an Islamic Boarding School. and I have some questions and a request: 1. I have been searching for universities that offer MA program in Islamic Studies and so far I can only find few of them such as HDS, BU, Chicago University, George Washington, and Columbia. Since I am an international student, I have to pass the language requirement and thankfully I've passed it (IELTS score 7.5/9). So now I am studying for GRE and about to take it on December. I am going to apply to those schools but they seem a bit out of reach for me considering English is not my first language and those schools, even though not specifically, I believe, require a quite high GRE scores. That's why I need to find some other schools that I can apply to that are not Ivy. Do you guys have any suggestion? 2. There are very few people who study Islamic Studies in the US that I know of, and I have been having difficulties finding people who I can have discussion with, that are open minded. I am currently writing my statement of purpose and I found that my SOP is a bit too on the left or liberal for most of my colleagues here in my country. Do any of mind taking a look at my SOP? I know I should post this in a different thread but I'm afraid that people may not be able to understand my SOP since it's involved some technical terms in Islamic Law. Also because my SOP is quite personal and I am not yet confident sharing it in public. Can I anybody help me out here please?? Thank you guys!!!
