  1. Only you can truly answer this, but if you feel this way now it's not likely to change; that's the nature of regret. It's also a disservice to the school and student body for you to bring this baggage and negative energy to their program. Realistically, you'll only do one MFA. You applied to this school so what made you do that and accept your current school beyond the reason you stated? Think about why you believe your dream school is better, can you realistically get into your dream school and what would you do if you turn down this offer and never get into another program. Whatever you decide, fully commit to being present in the program you pick.
  2. Even if you don't plan to apply until next year, you can still visit schools this year. Meet the faculty in person. See the schools in person. Talk candidly with students. Online just isn't going to give you that feel. Do some research on when your top choices have Open Houses and go see!
  3. First, that's a solid GPA and you do meet the GPA requirements so don't be so hard on yourself. Think about requesting an informational interview with the Chair or Dean of the department's at these schools. You're already interested, so prep some specific questions and use it as a chance to get information about how their funding is dispersed and about the program. Also, you might consider taking a break instead of heading straight to a grad program. Use that time to really dig in and study for the GRE/MAT and knock those scores out of the park, build a relationship with organizations you hope to work for in the future and frankly give your mind and body time to rejuvenate and get you excited about your next step. Good luck!
  4. I've known numerous people married and in relationships who complete their master's apart. For some people it's a stress free experience, for others it's super hard. This is really an individual question that only you and your partner can answer, but you both have to really be committed to open, honest and continuous communication about your expectations, needs, frustration, etc. Good luck!
  5. I agree that residencies seem like a much better fit for you right now. Sounds like you already have a portfolio and are well versed with the application process. Check CAA and NYFA for residency listings and opportunities. Reach out to your current networks to see who they can connect you to in the city, even if it's just to have someone to see shows or grab a drink with. Keep in mind, as an international student, the expense of a degree program in the US is even more burdensome than for domestic students and as established as you sound there may not be many benefits for you. Also, if this is a permanent move, I believe that once you've established NYC residency for a year (you'll need to fact check that) Hunter will be a much more affordable option.
