  1. damn, I just got into iu Bloomington with a really good offer, after I'd already decided I was reapplying to schools next year. feeling very indecisive!
  2. finally got my vcu rejection! for people who were asked to apply for their summer program, be consoled; I didn't even get that (and might have taken them up if I did)
  3. this was my first time applying. I've only officially heard from 2 but already decided I'll just apply next year. as far as what to do with my life, I'd already been a working artist before this...really institutional validation is nice but I'm not holding my breath. Art is supposed to be a space of fun and freedom and community and panels don't have the right or ability to deny that to you. honestly, I was really depressed when the rejections started happening. I started to question my portfolio, the ideas behind my work, whether I was wasting my time doing detailed oil paintings. rejection confirmed all my worst insecurities. what's been making me feel better is spending time in my studio, being part of an upcoming group show and the planning/distraction behind it, and time.
  4. yeah i got a form email asking me to check my application status and got a rejection letter there. BUMMEDDDD
  5. rejected from mason gross. well, at least i won't have to worry about moving.
  6. i applied for painting at vcu, yale, rutgers and iu bloomington. i probably should have applied to more places but i was stupidly optimistic!
  7. so far 3 of the 4 schools I applied to haven't asked me to interview. honestly feeling pretty demoralized
  8. I too have nothing about an interview on mine (for painting). pretty bummed as I assume this means I'm out. here's an article that might make us feel better (even though there's something equivalent in every mfa program): http://artillerymag.com/24755/
  9. Tyler seems like a great painting program and I totally agree re:Dona Nelson. I only didn't apply because I live in philly and wanted a change of scenery (been here a decade now). it is an excellent place to be a working artist; tons of affordable studio space as well, which makes for a very smooth transition once you graduate.
  10. nice work everyone. stupid question: how do I make signatures show up? I'm not seeing anyone's!
  11. I'm not but this sounds like an awesome career and I kind of wish I'd made the life decisions that would allow this to be an option!
  12. thanks for this! I really wish yale could give department specific stats. I assume painting is probably lower.
  13. does anyone know what schools mean when they ask for your entire portfolio as a PDF document with a cover sheet? is it like having a page per image? I emailed u of Washington asking and never heard back. also, yes, I applied to skowhegan. I apply every year, and am rejected every year!
