  1. I am still waiting for one of my top choices. The program rolled out rejects in recent one week after two small waves of admits. I haven't heard anything from them. Although I suspect that there won't be more ADs since I only see rejects last week from that school, what I don't understand is that why they rolled out rejects day by day rather than sending out a final wave. So does that mean they might be still processing applications so that people who didn't receive anything still have a chance?
  2. I am freaking panic now :(. A bunch of people have received offers in 9 Mar late afternoon (Cal time), and I haven't got anything yet. Can someone help to share some knowledge and information?
  3. Hi all, I am a CS student undergrad, with decent publications in machine learning fields, GPA 3.8 (one of the tops in my CS department), a few A+ in general math courses, but my GRE ends up at Q164 V162 AW4.0. (I speak English as my second language, so my verbal might be a highlight, but who knows if it can fix my not-so-outstanding Q score for an eng program) Harvard CSE admission deadline is 15 Dec which is pretty early compared with others, and it will be very risky for me to schedule another GRE since the only available GRE date before that time for me clashes with my final exam weeks (I can still take the GRE test, but revision for that GRE will negatively affect my exams study, for the worst case) Is this GRE Q164 a deal breaker for me? Should I go for another attempt? Thank you!
  4. I am talking about a CS or other engineering related professional programs
  5. For phd, a strong letter is kind of determinant. Is that equally true for master application (especially those top ones: Harvard, MIT, Berkeley, Stanford etc. )
  6. Well, I decided to retake anyway! Since I heard Stanford applies superscore policy. I'll focus on Quant and I think Quant is far easier for me to improve
  7. Hi all, I am a student with CS and Marketing degrees, and I am targeting Stanford MS&E and Harvard CSE Master. I have high GPA, decent research & work experiences (CS related), and at least two strong letters. However, My GRE, especially Quant, is a bit lower (Q164, 87th percentile). It is awkward score, because it is not too low to get me rejected immediately, neither it is securely high. Stanford did provide their admission stats here https://msande.stanford.edu/admissions/masters/masters-science-admission-statistics . Though I am higher than the last year accepted students average in Quant, I don't think I should feel overly auspicious as past average are 166 around. Since my last semester has started with tons of project works, continuing to contribute time to GRE might be risk. I estimate that spending time on GRE may take time away from my final year projects and courses thus my GPA may be affected. Should I retake GRE again? Thanks for any advice
  8. It looks very vague from MS&E website if the applicant is from a different university from Stanford. There is a math course requirements before applying this program. I am a CS and Marketing double degrees student, and I have taken two math papers in my undergrad study covering multiple variable calculus and linear algebra. I completed those courses with excellent marks. But to my best knowledge, these courses share but not perfectly equivalent to MATH 51' content in Stanford. So should I still apply for MS&E. How do admission officers evaluate my course background based on my transcript, do they do google search on those course names? "The program is open to all with a bachelors degree. Students are expected to have completed both MATH 51 Linear Algebra and Differential Calculus of Several Variable, or an equivalent multivariable differentialcalculus course and CS 106A Programming Methodology, or an equivalent generalprogramming course, before beginning graduate study. These courses do not counttoward degree requirements. Committee will look at your transcripts for this. "
  9. Hi, I am a student from the University of Auckland (NZ). I am going to apply for 2018 fall MS programs in USA. I am aiming at top schools such as UCB and Stanford. I currently have a 3.9/4.0 GPA (converted to USA scale under the formula provided by Stanford). I have already had two research experience (without publication. May publish one work in 2017) and some working experiences. I will have some opportunities on continuing work with my professor in the next year, but it will cost me a lot of time such that I may not fully focus on my academic study. A grade drop may happen if I do so. It may drop to 3.7/4.0 if I spent less time on my course works based on my estimation in the worst case. May I ask if I should work with my professor or focus on my course study in the last year? Thanks
  10. Hi, I am a CS student, double degreed in Marketing. I am thinking whether I am suitable to apply for some top MS&E MS programs (Stanford). I didn't take much math courses at school, but I have research experiences in machine learning, which is strongly replying on the applicaion of math. I learned those math mostly by myself but compared with those people with math major or minor, I am still weak in that. I performed pretty well in courses with math contents, such as Commerce Stats, Computational Science, Discrete Math etc. Can anyone provide some suggestions? Thanks.
  11. Hi, I am a foreign student from New Zealand. I studied in Singapore for one year with 7 papers there as an exchange student. Those papers do not count for GPA in my home university transcript in New Zealand, but only credit points. But I have a transcript from exchange university. My GPA is decent without counting those exchange papers, as 3.9. But if I involve those exchange papers into calculation, it will drop to 3.7. I am a bit nervous about this since I planning to apply for top10 CS Master programs in US next year. Do most top uni's admission office in USA (Such as Stanford, Berkeley, CMU e.g.) calculate my GPA by involving performance from exchange study? Thanks!
