I'm applying for the PhD program at the Media, Culture and Communication Department at NYU. They're very competitive, only accepting 6 students a year. So I'm really super anxious about this!
However, I know my application is going to look super impressive, high GRE scores, high undergraduate GPA, an A+ Masters thesis, teaching experience, along with a few publications and conference presentations, and really laudatory recommendation letters, so even though actual admittance is still really chancy, I think I'll probably at least get to the video interview stage in February. That will probably sound cocky and I might be setting myself up for an even bigger disappointment, but whatever.
I didn't have an interview for when I was admitted to my Masters program, so I don't really know what these kinds of interviews entail. I've been in academia my whole life and have never had an actual job interview either, so I don't even have that as a frame of reference either. What kinds of questions should I be expecting, what should I prep for?
In the off chance that someone reading this has actually had a video interview with the MCC department at NYU, that'd be particularly helpful!
