  1. Well, we don't know the exact day for sure, but they claimed on their Facebook and Twitter pages that awards would be issued later this week. I feel you on the rejections. I thought that I was more competitive for the NSF than for the NDSEG, and I didn't even come close to getting the NSF. I'm not expecting anything from the NDSEG, although it certainly would be a nice surprise. (One of my labmates put together an NDSEG proposal, and I think the DoD is more likely to be interested his research direction than in my work, so I would also be happy if he got the award.)
  2. No luck for me - mostly Goods - but congrats to everyone who got it!
  3. Cute! I wish I had one - it looks so soft. (Also, good luck! Maybe you'll be offered the NSF fellowship and get to hug the bunny in excitement.)
  4. Instead of checking the NSF website, I usually go straight here! I figure I'll find out just as quickly that way, since someone's sure to post it when they see it.
  5. I applied to this one and it was kind of strange; I didn't really enjoy having to fill out all of the separate types of experiences. Since it was kind of a last-minute choice to apply (and I was in the middle of finals week at the time I was finishing my application), I didn't put my best effort forward. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I actually receive the fellowship - and if I do, it'll be because someone in the DoD is interested in my research, not because I crafted a really amazing application overall.
  6. For the NDSEG fellowship, I have read that it's important to choose a specialization that's related to one or more areas that the DoD funds. That's fine, but what if my proposed research uses one specialization area (Remote Sensing and Imaging Physics) to study another (Arctic and Global Prediction)?* Does it make the most sense to pick the one that I feel is more relevant (e.g. "Arctic and Global Prediction"), put them both as specialization (e.g. "Remote Sensing and Imaging Physics, Arctic and Global Prediction"), or combine them in a shortened way (e.g. "Remote Sensing of the Arctic Environment")? I'm leaning towards the third option, but I'm wondering what other people think and just how specific the specializations are supposed to be. I know I'm overthinking this, but any help/advice would be appreciated! *Specialization areas changed slightly to maintain anonymity, but these work fine as an example.
