  1. @Gvh I did actually! I asked for the more northern buildings since I'm hoping to get a parking spot!
  2. @Mingda I paid mine through electronic transfer as well and I got an email pretty much the next day. I haven't received any emails from them since, but they told me to expect to hear from them a month or so before my intended move-in date.
  3. Congrats on your acceptances! That's quite a list you had to choose from! If you get your ID number early, you should also checkout https://marketplace.uchicago.edu/ Grad students recommended the site to me, especially if you're looking for a roommate or a room to rent

Thank you for this post! This doesn't have to do with housing, but I will be attending UChicago and will most likely be bringing a car from California. I heard you need a special sticker to park in Chicago? Is that true? On another note, coming from SoCal I haven't really experienced "seasons" before.. What are some necessities I should buy to survive in Chicago?
  6. @dolfinz I applied through their website (https://rp.uchicago.edu/graduate_housing/) and once you submit the application, it leads to the payment site and you pay $200 I haven't really received any emails either.. I asked my program about grad housing and they sent me the link
  7. Congrats on your admission! A fellow biomedical sciences person! I officially put in my deposit for grad housing, hopefully it goes well.. Also if anyone is wondering, you don't have to be married to live with a SO in grad housing
  8. @imsocorkyy Yes, Maureen's last name is Paolini! Her class basically helps you build a strong personal statement and Maureen is very helpful with choosing graduate programs as well. She's a great resource on graduate schools! I personally didn't take the subject GRE mainly because of the $$$.. and it didn't seem to hurt me (as far as I know)
  9. Hello fellow Aztec!! I just wanted to let you know that I agree with @biochemgirl67 that you can shoot higher and that your stats are not bad at all. I had a 3.7 (messed up my first semester with a 3.0) with meh GRE scores 158/158/4.5 and I still got into graduate school. I have about 2.5 years of research experience, but no publications. I actually applied to pretty "top" schools (University of Chicago, Harvard, UT Southwestern, Weill Cornell, etc.) and didn't really choose a "safety school".. really risky but it paid off for me since I did get into a few places. I heard from various people that you should take the subject GRE if your GPA is a bit lacking, but I'm not too sure if that actually helps. And as mentioned above, get some good letters from people who have seen your research and get your personal statement checked many many times. (If you're still in school next semester, you should may consider taking Biol 247 with Maureen) Also you should focus on professors' research at different institutions and choose places that have multiple faculty you'd like to work with. All the schools that biochemgirl mentioned are great schools, but ultimately depends on the type of research you'd like to do

Hi, I currently go to SDSU! You have to live a little bit further from campus if you want cheaper places. The SDSU affiliated apartments (Aztec Corner, BLVD63, 5025, etc) are nice but REALLY expensive.. (think 600 for a shared room) I looked through craigslist and currently live in a room in a house for about ~600/month. The more south and east you go, the cheaper it generally is. La Mesa/Lemon Grove aren't too expensive. You might want to try this site: https://sdsu.och101.com/. I haven't used it personally, but my friend did and found a room off the site. If you're bringing a car (which I recommend), there's plenty of other neighborhoods to live in (Hillcrest, Pacific Beach, etc) but the buses around SDSU aren't that bad. The green line trolley runs through SDSU and can take you all the way to Santee or Downtown SD (can connect to other trolley lines there). It also passes through Mission Valley and Fashion Valley Malls and the Alvarado Hospital. I commuted by bus for about 2 years and it wasn't too bad besides grocery shopping. The 11 bus takes you to Hillcrest, the 15/215 takes you to downtown, the 955 to National City, the 936/856 to Spring Valley. The bus pass is about ~155/semester and allows you to go on the trolley and the buses. Parking is ~160/semester and can get crowded if it's not in the morning.
  11. @Gvh I still have one more interview this weekend, but I'm pretty sure I'll accept UChicago. I'll probably put it in around the end of the month.
  12. Congrats on your acceptance! I've heard similar things about graduate housing as well so I will most likely be going that route. If you are as well, you should do it early! I've heard from other graduate students that they couldn't get graduate housing because it's "first-come, first-served" and they didn't apply early enough.
  13. Congrats to you as well! I will be moving from the West Coast so it'll be a little difficult for me to go and find apartments so I was thinking of going the grad housing route. I've heard mixed reviews about it so I'm not too sure if I want to do it :/ UChicago is absolutely beautiful, hopefully the weather will be nice when you go visit!
  14. Hey everyone! I didn't see a UChicago 2016 so I thought I would create one! I will most likely accept the offer for their Biomedical Sciences (Microbiology) Ph.D. Program and wanted to see if there are any future UChicago people here! Also, is anyone planning on doing graduate housing?
