  1. Hey all, Are any of you going to the reception for newly accepted students on May 9? I just put in my RSVP.
  2. Hey @Teatime123. First year placements are notoriously limited for all SW students no matter what school you go to because many medical insurance companies only accept bills when second year students apply services, so many organizations don't want first years because it essentially means they can't bill for services. The goal of the first year, though, isn't to hone in on your specialty but just to gain exposure to the field. I have heard so many stories of people starting SW school thinking they were interested in one thing and then they got placed somewhere their first year that was outside their interest and they ended up really developing a love for that area, so my suggestion is just to be open this year to having your interests change. Unfortunately, you have more options if you have access to a car, but I there are some places that are accessible by public transportation. St. Francis House is one that I know of, and I know people who are employed there who are very happy. It's a homeless shelter that deals with all kinds of clients, from the mentally ill to addicts to people just down on their luck, so you would get a lot of exposure to different issues and become familiar with the various services out there that can help people. It's like a 30 second walk off the Chinatown stop on the Orange line. Another thing to be aware of is that Boston is a very bike-friendly city for most of the year. Once it gets really cold, you'll want to Uber it, but because the internships are just two days a week, it might not be too horribly expensive.
  3. Have any of you been in touch with your fieldship advisors yet? I met with mine on Thursday and thought she was really nice and helpful.
  4. @Denise Leeand @jellybean919 looking forward to meeting you two soon! I am so antsy for school to start. @senseless_panic I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them an email or give them a call, especially if you are pressed for time. @morningjunkythanks for the update!
  5. Hey @Shobie86!! Cool! Looking forward to meeting you!
  6. Yay, @TeaTime23! See you in September! Congrats, @caitmcguire! Keep us posted. @morningjunky, do you mean when we receive the actual money? No idea.
  7. Hi @TeaTime23! Congrats on your acceptance. My Agora status wasn't updated either. I also heard early for similar reasons and the dean told me I had been accepted and what BC would be offering financially via email. I later received an official email from BC and then an official letter in the mail along with a document about the scholarship info. Hope that helps @TeaTime23
  8. Congrats, @morningjunky! That's exciting! I can't tell you much more about Allston/Brighton other than what it sounds like you already know--a lot of students live there, it's convenient to BC, and it's relatively affordable. Citydata.com could be a good forum to browse for more info on the environment. BC is unfortunately not super accessible unless you are on the Green Line (which is the benefit of Allston/Brighton). It's doable from other neighborhoods, but it will take a while, which may be okay for you since we'll probably only need to be on campus two days a week. I live in Jamaica Plain and absolutely love it. I honestly think it's the best neighborhood in Boston, and it's cheaper than other places in the city like the South End, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, etc. It's about a 15 minute drive away or an hour using public transportation. You may have already seen this, but just in case you haven't, it will probably be helpful. http://www.bc.edu/offices/gsc/boston.html Let me know if you have any more questions
  9. Hi Joy418! I actually found out unusually early because I got an offer from another school that I had to respond to ASAP so the admissions dean agreed to review my application in late December, which was really nice of him because he was on vacation. He emailed me back with an offer on December 31st. I received a more official email from the school in late January, and then received the packet a few days ago. Looks like since the time of your post, you were accepted to BC! Congrats! Do you know if you'll be attending? That's cool that we have similar interests.
  10. Hi all! I will be attending BC in the fall and just wanted to reach out to anyone else who will potentially be going there as well. Please feel free to share any info you want about yourself, such as where you are from or what you are interested in studying. I am interested in focusing on developmental trauma (specifically the impact child abuse and neglect has on adolescents and adults), eating disorders, and intimate relationships. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and have lived on the East Coast for over ten years, when I moved out here for college. I have lived in Boston for the past 3.5 years so if anyone has any questions about living here, perhaps I can help. Best, Kate
