  2. Hello! My biggest suggestion would be to do a post bacc and get as many prereqs in as you can. Doing well in these courses show that you can handle the material you'll see in the field. Having a good GRE score is always a plus as well. The SOP is where you get to really show why the school should choose to admit you, so certainly spend a lot of time on that as well. I applied to 5 schools as an out of field applicant and was accepted to 2 schools, top tier wait listed to 2 other schools and rejected from 1. I think you'll be able to get in as well! Good luck
  3. Hello, I'm not OP, but I am in my last semester of the Post Bacc program at New Paltz. I applied to grad school this application cycle and was accepted to 3 schools in NY. I'm in a slightly different position than you, as I took some prereqs during undergrad - I only needed 3 classes total to complete my prereqs. However, I did take 2 courses last semester, and I found it really overwhelming. However, that had a lot to do with one specific class - the Observations course. They have you do either a writeup on a few observations sessions or a mandatory discussion board on alternating weeks. There's something due every single week that class. It didn't help that my TA was a particularly harsh grader. The other two courses that I took were much easier to manage. Oh but I should also mention that I was working full time while taking the courses, so that definitely had an effect on things as well. I can't speak on letters of rec, as I got mine from my undergrad professors, but I had a friend in the program who obtained one from one of the professors in the post bacc. If you're planning on getting a letter, I would recommend interacting with that professor a lot so that they get a sense of who you are. Going to a wedding your first week should be fine - just make sure you check your syllabuses to make sure you get in everything that is due. As for the textbooks, you could find textbooks in both physical copies and ebooks - however, physical books tend to be cheaper since you can find them used. I hope this long winded post helped somewhat, haha! As long as you do well in the courses, I think the post bacc program is a great way to jump into the field and eventually apply for grad school!
  4. I think someone said on the results page that hofstra won't be notifying us until mid March to early April. Someone also said that they extended their deadline to 2/15, but I don't know how true that is.
  5. I will definitely accept if this is the only school I get into, but I still haven't heard back from the 4 other schools that I've applied to. If I get into my first choice, I will decline st. johns. We have until April 15th to accept/reject the offer. I think that deadline is the same for most other schools too.
  6. I don't really know what the open house entails, but it says that directors/professors from their various Master's programs would be there. If you haven't gotten an invite to that yet, you probably will soon. They've emailed me a few times and sent me fliers, haha. I also received an invite to an Admitted Grad Students Mixer when I got my packet in the mail, but that's not until April 13th. That cuts very close to the deadline to commit to a school.
  7. I got the packet already and it didn't really give much info. It just included an acceptance letter, loan info and instructions on how to accept the offer. Perhaps the grad open house will give us more information.
  8. Congratulations @orangegreenblue! Do any of you guys know much about the program?
  9. I was accepted via email on Feb 9th and got my official acceptance materials in the mail around 2 weeks after. I was invited to the grad open house as well, so maybe it's a good sign. Hopefully you will hear back soon!
  10. Hey all - long time lurker, new poster here. I'm applying to a bunch of NY schools this cycle. I was accepted to St. John's on Feb 9th via email and I received my official acceptance letter in the mail this past Saturday. If it helps, I think they may be reviewing in order - I submitted my app around Christmas when they had their fee waiver offer up. I also recieved an interview from LIU Post, but I haven't heard back from any of the other schools I applied to in the area. The waiting game is horrible, haha.
