  1. Hi all, So here's my quandary: I've been accepted to one amazing school with no scholarship, but tons of great networking opportunities and international prestige. However, I've also been accepted to another, smaller school in the same city (Chicago - lots of opportunities), with a full tuition waiver and a graduate assistantship totaling $1000 a month. That being said, it's a pretty unknown school. I've called the bigger school telling them my predicament and asking them to reconsider me for merit, but I'm not sure what to do if they don't get back to me with anything, or if the amount is very little (under $5000 for 60k tuition). So...what would you do?! Help me please, grad cafe!
  2. Good luck to everyone!! This week I've decided to enroll in Medill at Northwestern's social justice and investigative reporting program. Got the call on Tuesday while I was working in my undergrad's english department and hugged all of my professors. What a great moment. Let me know if any of you are going to Northwestern!
  3. A place for all of us who've been hangin' around and whining on the decision board. LET'S TRY TO KEEP OUR SANITY.
  4. How do those of you with mental illnesses deal with the waiting period? I feel my depression and anxiety levels escalating like crazy, as all of my applications are now out of my hands. Still waiting on 7 decisions......at least nobody else has heard anything from the programs I applied to yet.
  5. Still waiting and waiting...I've had interviews with all of the 4 schools (out of the 8 I applied to) that give them but nothing else!! When it comes to the humanities and professional based programs (I'm applying for investigative journalism), I think they go out a bit later than the science and math based programs. It's still so early. And I know we've probably all convinced ourselves that we're not getting into any program at this point, but there's still so much time before we have to approach that possibility. Stay strong and good luck everyone!
  6. A 3.46 could be argued to be a 3.5 in certain contexts - if questioned, you could say you were simply rounding as you thought they wanted just a 2 digit GPA (as some schools do). Don't worry, you did nothing wrong!
  7. I wouldn't disclose this information to potential employers - I'm sure they'd rather hire someone they're positive will stick around. I would go to the interviews, answer their questions honestly, and just fail to disclose the information that you're applying to one grad school. It's not as if you're applying to 8! Then, on the chance that you do get in, you can weigh your options. I don't think there's anything unethical in this.
  8. The waiting is torture, and with all this 2016 election coverage all I want to do is report!! Where did you apply/what's your beat?
  9. It doesn't make any sense that you had the written test first - I had my in person interview for Berkeley's journalism school the beginning of December, and first we talked for about an hour, and then he gave me the log in and password to the written test. Before the interview, I received an email from Berkeley saying I've been selected for an interview with instructions on how to contact my interviewer. Are you positive you were selected for an interview? Perhaps it's because there were no interviewers in your region. Good luck!
