My question is somewhat related to this post. What are the best points to highlight when sending your first email to a potential advisor that could make them pick interest in you ? I have been lucky to get a couple of professors responding to first time emails but they are just few out of many others who wouldn't respond.

Hi, just got an email from NYU about their translational engineering program. This email came from the office of graduate enrollment. I didn't apply for translational engineering so I am a little confused. Any one else got the email ?

Hi guys, has anyone applied for a graduate program in University of Calgary for spring 2016 ? Is it absolutely necessary to get a supervisor before admission decision are made for their research based masters ? Some other schools admit before u get to pick a supervisor.
