  1. I got a super late acceptance too. I decided to accept it. Congrats on Maryland.
  2. I understand that money isn't everything, but the difference in funding between Tyler and OSU is very sizable. Tyler wants me to pay $15000 for the first year and is offering a $7500 a year stipend. OSU is offering $15000 plus a full tuition scholarship for all three years. I know Tyler's reputation but their stipend isn't even enough to pay living expenses. I would need supplemental income. I've told Tyler what OSU is offering. If they can give me a full TA that's where I'll go. Otherwise I am doing OSU. It's a fine program with a lot of funding opportunities. I really appreciate your input though. I agree, sometimes you should take on the loans for great program. For me though, the risks outweigh the gain in this instance.
  3. Mine was the same. Oh well, I guess I can't expect to get into everything I apply to! I'll just try again next year, I hope you do the same.
  4. Yeah I did apply pretty early. I bundled my Skowhegan application with all my grad school application.
  5. What did they say in your letter? If you don't mind me asking. . .
  6. Just got word I didn't get into Skowhegan. I received a pretty lengthy email explaining that it was a particularly competitive year, but I'm sure they tell everybody that. Also, my email was titled "applicant #21" does anyone know what the significance is of that, if any? Good luck to everybody!
  7. You're totally right, I think that is a part of why this is such a tough call. Tyler is so close to New York which is definitely a pro, but I talked with their students and they said you have to fight for money in the department. I mean, at what point does money become a playing factor in the quality of work you're making and is that outweighed by the environment in general? I'm sure the answers to these questions are as varied as the number of people and programs available out there. It is just interesting to think about. I never thought that I would be a person so concerned about money until starting this whole process.
  8. Thanks guys, My professors have been pushing for OSU also. I'm going out to Columbus this weekend to see the place before making the final call but I think OSU offers the most. I mean, you can make great work anywhere as long as you put your heart into it. I feel like if I have to worry about putting money together and paying bills all the time at Tyler it will ultimately affect the quality of the work I'm making. I just want to spend my grad school years being selfish and totally focusing on my work.
  9. Hey, so I'm looking for a little advice. I have been offered acceptance into Tyler School of Art and Ohio State University for painting. Tyler is my top pick but they are a two year program and they are offering 50% tuition with stipend. Ohio State is three years and are offering a full ride with stipend for the whole three years. Any thoughts?
  10. Oh great! I saw the thread for last year but not the new one. I've met a few people who have been to VSC and hear it is awesome. I'm really hoping I can get another residency under my belt before heading to Grad school.
  11. I found out I am waitlisted at OSU because I emailed them. Right now they have me at the number one seat on that list. They only accepted 3 people to the painting program this year and two of them have officially accepted. If you contact George Rush he might give you an idea of where you are on the list, he has been super friendly every time I've reached out to ask questions about the process. I hope that helps! Congrats on your acceptances, and good luck!
  12. Congrats to everybody who have been accepted! This is kind of off topic but I am curious if anyone has also applied to VSC or Skowhegan for this summer. Maybe another thread could be started for that as well?
  13. No, I interviewed in person in February. When did they tell you that you've been accepted? They sent me everything in an email.
  14. Thank you! And I haven't yet. . . I got full funding at the other programs I applied to and didn't expect to get into Tyler at all. They are offering me a half TA right now with a pretty decent stipend. It looks like all their grants and fellowship deadlines passed in February too. I am just worried because I put myself through undergrad on federal loans and really don't want to take on even more for grad school. I had told myself I wouldn't go somewhere that didn't provide full funding but now that I got into my top choice it's pretty hard to turn away from that.
