  1. That doesn't necessarily mean that you didn't get in. It's possible that they just don't have enough travel awards for all of the students that are likely to be admitted.
  2. Kind of. Here is a transcript of the message I received from them: Hi Ms. Weingarten, Thank you for the message. Once AGU's Ocean Sciences meeting finishes, I'll start planning my trip to visit the department. Great! With that said, I'm curious about my status as an applicant. I have not received any word regarding the department's decision to accept, reject, or even interview me. We don’t do formal interviews, but you are one of the applications Dr Blanken has identified that he is interested in and so that is why he is inviting you to visit. You are correct that we have not communicated with you about acceptance. I don’t have all the pieces – the committee is giving me only a few names at a time, so you are still in the “holding” pattern. A lot of the delay we have at this time of year is that faculty are waiting to hear from another applicant – perhaps because they have limited funding. Applicants don’t have to answer until April 15. I don’t know what the committee of Peter Blanken is doing but my guess is it is something along those lines and we all just have to wait it out. Would you be able to provide any information on the matter? Going off your previous message, I would assume that I've at least been granted an interview, but I want to be sure be continuing any further. Thank you very much. You should probably talk to Peter directly about your status, but he is obviously interested or he would not be inviting you. We only have about 7-8 of these travel awards each year and he picked you! Coming to visit is kind of like him interviewing you and you interviewing us…… Hope this helps you. When is the AGU conference? Karen My questions are underlined and purple-ish. So yeah. I'm looking for a ticket there now because Dr. Blanken recommended that I visit over my Spring Break since he'll be traveling and whatnot.
  3. Just curious if anyone has heard back from UGA about their admission status. If so, was it via email, phone, post, etc? Thanks!
  4. I received an email from the department that said, "We are happy that you are able to visit the Department of Geography at the University of Colorado at Boulder." However, I have not received anything saying whether I have been accepted, rejected, or even granted an interview. That's all I know though.
  5. Well, I feel a little less worried. He sent an email on Tuesday, which I did not see or respond to until about 5 or so hours later (yay clean lab...). In it, he wanted to gauge my interest since they are making decisions very soon (clearly that's in progress according to the results page). What other school are you looking at, if you don't mind me asking? I'm still waiting to hear back from a few other schools right now. Yeah, I hear you! I'm starting to stress out! I haven't talked to him directly, but that's pretty much because he isn't my main POI. That said, I wouldn't mind working with him either. Actually, that would be awesome! However, I only selected Peter Blanken as my POI, IIRC. He's the only one that I talked with over the phone.
  6. Oh nice! This discussion is perfect! I applied to the CU-Boulder Geography program (PhD) with an emphasis in climatology as well. My POI is Peter Blanken, but I am definitely interested in Serreze too. I haven't heard back from the department yet, but Peter did send an email to gauge my interest in working with him this fall. I'm assuming that's a good sign, but what do you think? Also, Tidus, I'd like to work heavily with ATOC, especially Darin Toohey. I see you're doing a little bit of oceanography as well. I'm finishing up my MSc in geological oceanography, so it's nice to see someone that's also interested in the ocean!
