  1. Got the link in apply yourself. Also, we found a house to rent on Alan Ave. about 1 1/2 miles from campus. What is the are like around Alan Ave. Just wanted your insight before we actually rent the house. Thanks!
  2. I received the orientation email for incoming PhDs yesterday with all of the info for insurance, funding, orientation, etc., but I still haven't received the letter from the grad school. Are you talking about the apply yourself portal? I didn't see a link to view my decision there. Oh well, I'm sure it will be squared away soon enough.
  3. Thanks for the insight and nice to meet you! I am quite excited to join the AU English dept. So far, my experience with the dept. and the GS has been wonderful. I don't know if they are simply friendly people or if the friendliness is a put-on during the "courting" process, but I appreciate it all the same. I don't care for the "ivory tower" mentality in academia, and they seem to have overcome it. I am sure we will see each other around. Maybe you can give us a tour of Auburn if we decide to visit before moving? It will also be nice to know someone in the dept. and in the town before uprooting our lives and moving to a new town. As soon as the DGS sends the GTA paperwork my way, my spouse and I will more than likely visit to get our bearings and to submit the paperwork. We live about 3 1/2 hours away, so the drive is manageable for a day trip. On a side note, did you receive the official letter from the Graduate School? I have not yet, and it is a little unsettling as I turned down another funded offer in favor of Auburn. I have only been in correspondence with the DGS, and I accepted the offer with him through email. Again, thanks for the insight.
  4. Also starting a PhD in Auburn this Fall and need some insight into housing there. I am married, so my wife and I are looking for a quiet residence close to campus. We are open to apartments, houses, condos, townhouses, etc. We also have pets moving with us. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, my wife is an early childhood teacher, so insight into the school districts and the difficulty of landing a job with a nearby school system will help too. Thanks!
  5. Any news of an acceptance from Auburn or Alabama? I am still waitlisted at Auburn and UF.

  6. Thanks for the info. I'd expect to hear something closer to the April 15 deadline set by the Council of Graduate Schools. Though info may come sooner if the four accepted students respond soon enough. I would love to attend AU for the obvious reasons concerning faculty, but having interacted with some of the faculty and staff throughout the app. process, AU is now at the to the top of my list. They all seem so friendly and interested in my future and future work (maybe this is customary?). Are you accepted anywhere else? I have an acceptance to another Uni., so the waitlisting at AU doesn't burn as much as it could have. Again, my experience with AU throughout the app. process catapulted them to the top of my list, which sort of sets me up for a letdown--ha! I am a Victorianist--so at least we have the 19th century in common--and my specific focus is poco/marxist theory, fin de siecle, degeneration, and tech at the close of the 19th century and early 20th century. Here's hoping we both get in off of the waitlist.
  7. Hi Dakine, I was also waitlisted at Auburn. I have not heard anything from them since. I see this going one of two ways. 1. They will notify waitlisters of any movement around the April 15th deadline. 2. We will never hear from them if spots do not open for us waitlisters. What is your focus for the Auburn program? Good luck!
  8. Looks like decisions are rolling in from Penn St. I was just rejected via email. I did, however, send an email to the grad program assistant asking for a decision a few days ago, so I don't know if my actions expedited the notification. I have acceptances to deal with, and making those programs wait doesn't sit well with me when they didn't make me wait very long for a decision. I wasn't a strong fit with the program, but I figured I would give it a shot. Good luck and best wishes to all applicants.
  9. Out at Buffalo (wasn't a good fit anyway), in at Georgia State, waitlisted at Auburn, and waiting on UF and Penn State (I am assuming PSU is a rejection at this point). Of course, any rejection stings a little, but this app cycle (my first for PhD) is far more successful than I anticipated, and I am simply relieved that I have an acceptance. All apps were for PhD in English and applied with MA in English. Hang in there, folks, it is an arduous journey, but the journey will be over soon!
  10. Awesome and congrats! I wonder how many PhDs applicants they are admitting this cohort, as I have applied in the Victorian track. Again, congrats! I would love to attend UF.
