  1. Hi – I'm an international student living outside the U.S. I was invited to Illinois' Welcome Weekend, but they will only cover up to $500 of my flight. I've still haven't made up my mind if that's a good enough deal.
  2. I work two jobs and a revolution is currently sweeping over my country but that hasn't distracted me enough. So: - I'm watching Gilmore Girls for the millionth time - I'm browsing through Zillow to do an estimate on the rent cost I'd have to do in each town/city I've applied to. I've also bookmarked listings I really liked. - I've started obsessively watching DIY YouTubers to get a sense of how I want to furnish/DIY my imaginary studio/1 bedroom. - I've obsessively read threads about two of my top choice towns/cities and found mass google docs basically advising about how to live in these said towns/cities while on a limited income. .... that's me: pathetic, party of one!
  3. Hi, I'm interested in public opinion, emotions, and social media, focusing on the spread of political misinformation from a comparative, cross-national perspective. I'm applying to Stanford, University of Texas-Austin (Journalism), University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and University of Illinois-Urbana Champagne.
  4. Hi, I'm applying to PhD programs for the Fall 2020 round and I'm worried about GRE requirements. I work two jobs and travel a lot for work and so have not had the time to take the exam. I know deadlines are fast approaching for when I should take it (most unis ask that prospective students take the GRE before Nov 1), but my local test center has no dates available. My scores from the time I applied to my MA are still valid but they're not very good (150 Q, 153 V, 4.5 AW) and I don't think they reflect my profile as an applicant. So my question is – should I bother taking the GRE after the Nov 1 deadline (the earliest date I could find is Nov 18) or should I just submit the scores I have right now and hope for the best? How important is the GRE really?
  5. Lebanese born in the United Arab Emirates where I lived for 17 years. Been back in Beirut for 4 years now. Will be attending Florida State in the Fall to start my MA in Media and Communication Studies!
  6. Hi! I'm moving to Tallahassee in August from Beirut to start grad school at FSU (MA in Media and Communication Studies)! I've never visited the US and I won't have the chance to check out Tallahassee beforehand, but I will be there fairly early (beginning of August). I've already signed a lease for a place.... and it so happens to be in Frenchtown (W Brevard, specifically). I'm not very concerned since I have lived in the Middle East my entire life, but shootings and armed robberies aren't common at all. Getting a car won't be possible, and I was thinking of getting a bike. Any tips about the neighborhood and what I should look out for? Thanks!
