  1. Hi!! I actually got admitted recently (which concerns me about funding, as it seems most offers went out end of February). Anyway, do y'all know if these funding offers typically cover tuition in addition to a stipend?
  2. I was simply asking how much they matter. To clarify, I've heard that the GRE scores are more of a checklist item- as long as you make it in the 85th percentile or above and do not stick out with a bad score then they don't matter. So, would a good verbal score really add that much to your application?
  3. Also applying to MAs and wondering how GRE scores weigh. Are they important at all?
  4. Thanks othersamantha! I'm not too worried-- everything is done and the apps that have a shorter page limit aren't due for a few weeks which I think should be enough time to shave off a page. I think I should be fine, thanks for the encouragement For anyone else who is interested-- I have emailed the schools and most said that if it is within two pages it is okay. I am guessing that these schools in particular are lenient because the writing sample is so short. It is probably school by school, though. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
  5. Hi guys! Just a quick question about writing sample lengths-- how strict are they? For around 5 of the schools I'm applying to, they are asking for a length of 10 pages. Unfortunately, I don't have any short papers (or if I do, they're from my first or second year of college-- no thank you!). I have one paper that I have edited down to ~11.5 pages. Would this work? What is y'all's experience in not adhering to the guidelines? I don't know if it matters, but I'm applying to MA programs.
  6. Thanks everyone! I'm not certain on which area of study I want to pursue (which is my main motivation in first pursuing a master's) but in my undergraduate studies I focused on medieval and renaissance literature. I was also drawn to Rutgers' program because it also offered a concentration in gender and sexuality studies. Does that help? With the M.A I plan to either go on to get my PhD or pursue an MFA. As far as I can tell, a lot of programs allow you to take creative writing classes as your elective so I'm hoping that I'll be able to better figure out my next step there. Thanks for the tip about funding! I've heard mixed things from my professors about that.
  7. Hi y'all! Most of my schools don't require the exam but I'm taking it anyway because why not? I'm studying by doing as many reading comp questions as I can because that's my strong suit and the focus on the more recent exam. I probably will stop "guessing aggressively" because that has killed me in practice exams. Good luck!!!
  8. Hi guys! Sorry if this question has been answered before. Anyway, after much deliberation I've decided to only apply to master's programs this year. The problem that I'm facing is that there is virtually no info online that I can find, so I'm having a difficult time creating my list of schools to apply to. There's also little info on acceptance rates so I'm also having a hard time figuring out which are "safeties" and which are "reaches." I've tried to cobble together what I have found on this website and it's definitely been the biggest help so far! Some info about me: I'm a Texas resident but would prefer to be on the East Coast. Any suggestions? This is my tentative list (does it make any sense at all?) Georgetown, Northeastern, University of Maryland, Villanova, University of Delaware, Upenn, UVA, Wake Forest, Texas Christian University and University of North Texas. Thanks y'all!!
  9. Hi y'all! I plan to take my GRE subject test in literature in October. I've read about how to prep online and keep being told to take the test in October so I have time to retake in November if need bee. When I tried to schedule my exam today, I noticed that the only available dates for 2016 are in September and October.. Am I missing something? On that note, any good M.A/PhD programs that DO NOT require the test? Thanks!
