  1. @cindyboop I’m sure you’re feeling all sorts of emotions right now. I’m sorry you’re having a tough application cycle— I can certainly empathize. I had to go through multiple application cycles, and I’m so glad that I did. In the beginning, I was desperately trying to fit into programs for all the wrong reasons. This time- I learned to target exactly what I want and need. It took having more field experience to learn what i wanted. If this is your dream, don’t let it go! Take this year to reflect, and read on what you really want to do. It’s true that research fit is a huge factor in the decision. (This May or may not be what has happened to your application). If you’re getting interviews, your application is certainly good enough! I once had a mentor say to me, “keep knocking on that door! It will open!”
  2. I’m feeling the anxiety. I interviewed at UVM last week so it’s too soon to hear from them but I went to VCU on 1/12... I saw a clinical acceptance was given this week. I imagine that means they are making some decisions! I also had a wonderful phone convo with UFL- but I’m not sure what it was (it was actually our second convo). The POI said he/she would be advocating for my application and was very up front that their process could take several weeks. We spoke a little over a week ago. Two weeks from now I go to GSU- they’ve given noooo details about the event. I don’t want to bug them, but I need to make travel arrangements ? basically im going cra cra. Is it too early to worry I won’t receive an offer? And is it inappropriate to reach out to GSU yet? Interview is on the 19th
  3. Sorry @IJustWannaGoToSchool I don’t think we have any over lapping schools! Good luck on your visiting day- what is that? I also was invited to “visit a campus and meet faculty and grad students.” What is that? My current advisor said that they program likely just didn’t use the word interview to avoid stressing applicants.
  4. Agreed. I also interviewed with someone in clinical. She asked a lot more logistical and straightforward interview questions than those in my concentration. Could add a neutral opinion to the interview process. In my experience she also gave unbiased answers (there was a lot of selling the program).
  5. @VVMM I heard from UFL developmental- I acknowledge it’s not cognitive. The POI mentioned bringing applicant nomination info before the committee. He/She called as we had spoken a while back, our latest convo was not an interview. It sounds like they have a multi-step process. After committee meets they send acceptances in waves according to funding. He/she did mention that all 5 concentrations meet at this committee. It sounds like the realm of possibilities for UFL are still wide open.
  6. Don’t be so hard on yourself! This is not my first cycle of applications... it’s also not my second unfortunately. I have two reference writers with two very very different views on the GRE. One values it a little. The other- phew! It serves as an indicator for how much work he/she will have to do as a writing mentor. Go figure? As an update- I emailed the POI that asked about my gre scores. I haven’t heard back... we shall see ? idk if I would be happy at a program that can’t look beyond GRE scores given everything else in my CV!
  7. Thank you for the feedback and thank you Cindyboop! The first 3 times I took the test- same exact score. The last time I took a prep course with financial aid and my quant went up 8 points ?. You make a great point, most of us don’t have the luxury to drop our job and study at the moment! I sure don’t! This advice was all very helpful.
  8. That’s just it, their MA is not a program that’s contingent upon acceptance into the PhD program- if it were I would be amenable to it. (Many programs include the MA). AND... it’s not funded- the MA. The PhD is fully funded. I like that you also agree not to rule it out. Should I just tell her I’m amenable to retaking the GRE (full disclosure I’ve taken it 4 times, that is my best score... this is just one my hang-ups lol). I just don’t know I can raise my quant 3 points- I certainly can’t guarantee it lol
  9. Could I please have advice? My GRE is low-frankly it’s not likely to change (150/154/4.5,QVA). I have an MA and a lot of things going for my application. delimma- poi from school contacted me asking if I planned on retaking the gre or would i consider starting in the MA program. She said “one score is lower than ideal (for the graduate committee).” I have 4 other interviews- but no acceptances, so I’m not inclined to turn anything down. I loved the research fit with this POI. I imagine she did too or she wouldn’t have contacted me. How should I respond? I’m certainly not getting a second MA.
  10. Hi there! I may be able to give some insight to VCU (but I did not apply to clinical). I recently had in-person interview weekend. (Jan. 11-12). The grad students said the clinical program has 2-3 interview weekends in order to make the interviews more intimate, and they were still planning those interviews. I have no idea what the POI’s have done/ haven’t done to send invites, but it sounds like VCU clinical operates in waves. Hope this helps! Good luck!
  11. Do you know if this is all concentrations (clinical and no clinical)? For UFL? I’m really hoping to hear from their developmental program.
  12. Has anyone heard from the university of Florida or university of kentucky’s Developmental program?
  13. I thank you! My fiancé and I are both applying to school at the same time- so unfortunately finances are an issue. has anyone requested a Skype Interview for programs that are really far away? If so, how was it received?
  14. How is everyone able to afford all the travel costs?!?!?!!! Does anyone have any tips, tricks, websites, etc.? I just got back from an interview, and now I’m trying to plan for another one. Neither offer travel reimbursement (both at least are paying for meals). I was able to drive to the first (6 hour drive) I do not want to drive to another one (9 hour drive). ?
  15. Congratulations! I can’t speak for Pitt, but this happened to me last year. It could be a POI’s short list or an overall program shortlist. Last year with TSU Knoxville, I was shortlisted by my POI after a phone interview. He was very kind and honest- so maybe just ask more questions in your case? In my case, if the individual/s in front of me declined interview or admissions, I moved up his short list which consisted of 4 individuals. Hope this helps! would you happen to know when the dev. Pitt interview is and if they have sent out all their interview invitations? thanks!
  16. Would you happen to know if all the invites for kent’s Dev. Have gone out?
  17. I have a phone interview and an in-person interview coming up soon. I am most nervous about the phone interview, but I would like to be well-prepared for both. Can Anyone suggest materials (or questions from your own interviews) to use in preparation? I would really appreciate it!!! BTW- I’m experiemtal psych and developmental psych focused, so if you have interview advice specific to this, it would be awesome!
  18. Thanks for the reassurance, just freaking out about it for some reason.
  19. I received an email from Kent state on Friday that my app had been sent to department for review. Did anyone else get this email Friday? I’m concerned because I see others receiving interviews. I had several back and forth phone calls with the graduate school and psych department bc one transcript was missing. Just one —from my community college ( I now have my masters, and they had that transcript and my undergrad). The psych department said they could view it anyway, but I’m concerned that it wasn’t viewed until the new copy of my community college transcripts were received. Ughhh
  20. While I didn’t apply there, I had that happen to me last cycle. I called the graduate school and they told me the department hadn’t started viewing yet and I was fine. I would start calling to see if that’s the case for you too- you could get lucky?
  21. Don’t worry too much, everyone keeps saying it’s pretty early. I’ve heard the non-clinical programs tend to interview a little later, but who knows! I think it’s all pretty ambiguous ? I heard back from VCU-developmental, so our concentrations differ. Most programs I applied to are experimental with dev. Concentration. But I am eagerly waiting on Kentucky, U of FA, FSU, as well as a few others lol
  22. Undergrad GPA can totally be overcome. Mine was awful, and I’ve gotten one interview invite (it’s not an acceptance but hey!). Have you heard back from Kentucky or Florida State?
  23. Ugh... I have seen that 5 out of the 11 schools That I applied to have sent out interview invites! Ugh!!!! They aren’t all in the same program that I applied to, but it makes me so nervous that I’ve Not heard from those schools. I’ve heard that experimental/ non-clinical interviews are often done a little later, but I’m seeing some interview invitations for those programs. ? I’m going to go insane waiting... Has anyone heard from experimental (developmental concentration) at Kentucky, Kent, FSU, or Rochester?
