  1. For the verbal section, I found it extremely useful to use the "Painless GRE" app on my android phone. The app teaches you words in batches, keeps track of the ones you get wrong, and forces you to review the words by automatically showing you the words you've already learned again about a week later. You'll see each word about five times before the app considers the word learned. It's super easy to use if you have a daily commute, and taught me many words that I saw on the day of my test. I really can't recommend this app enough - it was all I did to prepare for the verbal section and I did really well on the actual test! Best of luck to you with studying!!
  2. @Elunei, not sure where you're at currently but I'm at McGill and if you had any questions I'd be happy to answer then for ya! I did my undergrad here in psychology and see that you're applying to clinical psyc programs.
  3. I had the same thing happen to me today! I also didn't get a chance to ask about when they're releasing decisions but I guess we'll see what happens. I hope your call went well!
  4. For UW health services it should be the first few days of February, for Hopkins mental health it should be mid February, and I don't really have any solid prediction for UNC health policy and management. This is all just based on what the results page says for the past few years for the programs I'm applying to.
  5. okay I'll give this my best shot haha. so far I really like the program, and my research is really interdisciplinary, but there's a few key things to know about the curriculum. first, you basically pick the courses you want to take - they can be from any department, as long as they're 500 level or over, and other than that you're doing thesis research all the time (very much like working 9-5). this was great for me because my coursework is very tailored, but the tradeoff is that you really don't meet anyone in the program. I'd say that's the biggest drawback - there is no cohesiveness in the program whatsoever. if I didn't already have friends here I think I'd be super lonely. I knew this program was good for me because I heard you could finish it in a year if you wanted, and could really tailor your coursework to your needs, and I'd say it's done exactly this for me so far. but in terms of other opportunities, like TAships, department talks, RAships, etc., you're very much on your own for that and need to figure it out on your own if it's going to happen. it's a very independent program and if you want to make the most of it you need to be assertive in seeking your own opportunities. let me know if you have any more specific questions!
  6. hey there! I'm currently in the master's of psychiatry program at mcgill - not doing stuff related to neuroscience, but I can tell you more about the program in general if you want. what sorts of things do you want to know?
  7. hey there, I'm applying to similar programs to you and the way I know when they release decisions in through the gradcafe results portal. provided that schools release decisions about the same time as prior years, you can check results from previous years and see when they were posted! best of luck with your apps
  8. Hey there! Thanks for setting this up! Interesting to see who else out there is applying this season. Here's my profile: Undergrad School: Top university in Canada Undergrad GPA: 3.94 (cumulative), 4.00 (for my major) Major/Minor: Psychology (honors) and social studies of medicine If Applicable: Grad School: Master's degree in a social sciences field, thesis-based, top university in Canada Grad GPA: Haven't got any final grades back yet, I just started GRE or Other Test: GRE: 99th percentile verbal, 89th percentile quant, 98th percentile writtenExperience/Research: I did two honors theses during my undergrad degree, and then worked full time for a year and four months as an RA. I'm also working as an RA right now while I do my masters degree. My name is on six publications with two as first author. I have two articles under review, both as third author, and three articles in preparation (two as third author and one as second author). Outside of research, I have four years of volunteer experience in crisis management / active listening and worked for two years in a supportive / informational capacity with first year university students. Applied: Johns Hopkins (Mental Health), UW (Health Services), UNC (Health Policy & Management) --- All are PhD programs Accepted: Rejected: Waitlisted: I would have applied to more places but I really can't find other researchers who have matching interests. If it was for a masters I'd be more willing to branch out but for a PhD I think I need to stay as true as possible to my research interests or else it'll be a tough 4-5 years. Best of luck to everyone!! I genuinely wish this could work out for everyone!
