  1. So, I really want the scholarship, I have an affiliation letter, and I have a clear research topic. BUT, I'm a PhD student and my department prefers that I stay in the states. They've said they would love if someone in the department got the scholarship but it would essentially mean I take a year off from the program and they also don't want that. Has anyone else had pushback or mixed messages from their PhD programs? How did you handle it?
  2. Thanks for asking! It went incredibly well. I practiced responses to a wide array of potential interview questions, bought a new outfit, and thought of small talk questions. I was nervous about making a good impression, but as the meal unfolded, it became clear that they were selling to me. That definitely took some of the pressure off and gave me a great opportunity to ask quite a bit about the program. The more I heard, the more I became confident I would be an excellent fit to the program. I delivered thank-you notes the following day. The day after that they made me an offer of admission. They said they had never made an offer this early before but were so impressed by me that they wanted to do whatever they could to make sure I could be in the program. I believe I will be well-appreciated by prolific and quality professors at this b-school, and have accepted their offer of admission. Words can't explain how relieved and excited I feel.
  3. Hello! I didn't see a topic for this yet..sorry if its a duplicate! I have a lunch meeting with three professors from my top PhD in Management program on Wednesday. They called me to set it up before my application was complete so I think I made a good impression, but now I don't want to ruin it. Any advice? Thanks! Good luck to everyone!
  4. My research assistantship supervisor recommended not getting too personal. My first draft read like a backstory of my passion for psychology. Her advice was, "Honestly, your SOP is too personal. It should be more boring than this." I still kept the content, but I edited it to make it less narrative and more academic.
  5. Hello fellow I/Oers! Applying to PhD at: -Rice -George Washington University -Penn State -UPenn (Psychology) -Colorado State -Portland State -Harvard (OB) -Columbia -Akron -TAMU (OB) Got an interview invite for TAMU yesterday (didn't realize I might hear from schools this early so I'm really excited). Fast Stats: GRE Composite 330 (98%) Q 165, V 165. BA Psychology GPA 3.4, MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling GPA 4.0. Research Assistant for 6 months. 1 SIOP Poster (Going for the first time in April! AHH!). Interests: My interests are invisible biases (mannerisms, communication style, volume, etc) and their effect on teams. Eventually I would like to be able to create and facilitate training that helps diverse teams work effectively together.
  6. Hello! Everyone's research interests are so interesting! My interests are invisible biases (mannerisms, communication style, volume; any subtle cultural variation) and their effect on teamwork. This is especially important because data shows that cultural differences pretty much only have a negative effect for long-term, high-stakes teams (astronauts, military, etc). I would like to eventually develop training to facilitate healthy occupational culture that functions well with diversity in an increasingly global workplace. Does anyone else feel like they could talk to a blank wall for hours about their interests?
  7. I'm mainly applying to I/O programs but I applied to HBS and TAMU too.
  8. Hello all. I was just invited for an interview for Texas A&M's OB PhD program. Any advice or guidance? Their website doesn't say much in terms of their program size or current students' interests. Thank you!
