  1. Does anyone know if sackler is done sending out admits?
  2. Yeah, I think my strategy for it would be to read their websites and understand generally what they are doing and from what angle they are approaching big questions from. Then I would read abstracts from their 2 or 3 most recent/ most impactful papers and try to think of some good broad questions to ask. haha sorry for all the unsolicited advice, I just thought maybe this would be helpful for anyone else reading too! I thought 40 minutes would be a hard block of time to fill--but it passed super fast and over half of my interviews ended up going over time (but in a good way)
  3. I definitely feel the same way! One school I got a week's notice and the other school only 2 days--it's really daunting to only know who you're speaking to two days before. But, I realized that they don't really expect you to "prepare" by reading all of their work (I tried to in 48 hours it was so painful) but they didn't even ask me anything specific about what they did, plus all their current work is unpublished so I couldn't even be up to date on their newest things. The interviews were very heavily focused on my work and I got some specific questions about the methods I had used. But no specific questions on their work--although I seemed to get positive responses when I asked them a few relevant questions. Good luck with all of your interviews everyone!!! You'll do great!
  4. Hey just wondering if you've received one yet? I still haven't which seems kind of strange. I e-mailed again just asking to make sure I didn't miss an e-mail...I'll let you know if I get a response.
  5. They definitely asked us to list professors, and also it's likely you mentioned your interests and professors you would like to work with in your personal statement
  6. It might be based on what specialty you were interested in and which professors were available one which dates. I wouldn't worry about that.
  7. I am also going this weekend, so maybe see you there! I have not received a schedule, but I the coordinator told me that they would be sending them out the week of the interview....so I guess it could be anytime between now and Thursday.
  8. Did anyone apply to Duke's MGM program? I don't see any results in the survey, but Duke CMB sent out invites a long time ago, is it time to give up hope on MGM?
  9. You know, I'm not actually sure about the acceptance rates but I do notice that on every website they don't advertise the metrics you mentioned. I would hope they don't really care about the acceptance rate, but I can only assume that it adds to prestige to say "we only accept 10% of applicants meaning we have the top 10% of students" I know that's a false equivalency but it might still sway people's opinions of that school.
  10. I thought the same thing, but I emailed her back yesterday afternoon and she responded at 6pm (PST) with a bunch of exclamation points and specific advice and stuff so idk how automatic it really is. don't give up hope!! she told me they are actively reviewing applications still. edit: if you really are worried about your app having already been rejected, I'm sure if you emailed her she would tell you. she seemed incredibly honest and welcoming to all questions.
  11. Hi! I actually just received an email from the director saying that she would really like me to finish my app ( i never actually submitted just put in all my scores/ research experience, but no SOP or LOR) and that she is excited to consider me. I'm pretty sure she probably sent this email out to a lot of people, but I also think that still means they are considering people especially since their application is free. The only reason I can think they would still be asking for people to apply is if they wanted to boost their application numbers to have a lower acceptance rate. I should clarify though--the woman who emailed me was the director and she was very responsive and encouraging so I kind of doubt they are only asking for more applications to boost numbers.
  12. Thank you! I don't know who I will be meeting with so it would be wonderful to find out. thanks again for the advice! and Happy New Year!
  13. Hi! Sorry I'm kind of freaking out right now, I have my interview for NYU Sackler on Jan 12th, and I have gotten emails confirming all the travel information (flights/hotel etc) but have yet to receive an actual schedule of events. Is anyone else interviewing there and have you received a schedule? is it appropriate to e-mail to ask if they have finalized scheduled events yet? thanks again!
  14. Hi All, I'm sure this has been gone over a million times, but does anyone have a link to pictures of acceptable clothing for grad interviews? I'm interviewing at NYU and I don't know how formal or informal they are. I am planning on wearing khakis/cords a nice button up shirt and a sweater, but is that too casual? I'm afraid I'll feel awkward in a blazer. Thank You!
