  1. Undergrad Institution: San Jose State UniversityMajor(s):Electrical EngineeringGPA in Major:3.78Overall GPA:3.75Position in Class:?? Type of Student: Male Asian AmericanGRE Scores (revised/old version):Q:157V:148W:3.5 (I know they're horrible. Wasn't planning on taking the GRE and just staying at SJSU, but my professors pushed me to apply to other schools so I took it last minute without studting directly after my last final. Definitely the scores I deserve for the effort I put in unfortunately) Research Experience: noneAwards/Honors/Recognitions: HKN, TBP, PKPPertinent Activities or Jobs: Internship last summerAny Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help:nopeSpecial Bonus Points: nopeAny Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I was the lead for our senior design project. It was a visible light communication system for cars and traffic infrastructure. I did software development, schematic design, and was involved in the signal filter design and analysis. Applying to Where: UCB, UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO, SJSU. Mix between electrical and computer engineering masters, with a focus on visual computing, parallel processing with GPUs, and computer graphics. I'm hoping to get into Davis. Their program is really encompasses the material that I'm interested in. Hopefully my GRE scores won't disqualify me, but that is a very likely to happen.
  2. So I'm getting my bachelors in electrical engineering this spring from San Jose State. I'm trying to get into the masters program for various UC's because their programs fit more to my interests in computer graphics and parallel processing using multi-cored GPUs. SJSUs MSEE program is impacted and relatively weak in these areas. Unfortunately, being a CSU there wasn't much chance to do any research or gain any publications, as these opportunities as few as they are, are usually primarily saved for graduate students. I'm wondering how much this will hurt my chances at making the switch. I have a modest GPA 3.75 and 3 solid letters of rec. Also, unfortunately, I tanked my GRE (157 quant(67%), 148 verbal(38%), 3.5 analytical(48%) ) because I was planning on going to SJSU for my masters and taking it wasn't required. After talking to several professors and the graduate adviser, they convinced me I needed to apply somewhere other than SJSU, so I took their advice and started looking at other programs. This left me no time to study for the GRE before applications are due and results are as expected.
