Acceptances you had: SUNY at Buffalo and Rutgers University Research Area: Culture (specifically, media) Final Choice: Rutgers!! Reason: I got off of the waitlist last minute, and Rutgers was my first choice.

I would say that if your POI has anything to do with the waitlist decisions - such as if they interviewed you and would have given their feedback to the committee - it might be a good idea to reach out and mention that this school is still a priority for you, so they know you're still interested. However, I personally wouldn't do that without having something else to say or discuss with your POI, such as an upcoming campus visit, so it doesn't just come across as sucking up.

Thanks for mentioning that, as I've been worried about how to dress. I was going to wear an outfit from my government internship, but was worried about shoes as I'm unsure how much walking will be required.

I was told by my advisor that there's a good amount of money in designing surveys for companies to conduct, if you'd like to go down that road.

Also rejected by U of M, so unless Rutgers pulls off some sort of miracle, guess I'm going to UB.

When I replied to my Rutgers waitlist notification, I [a] told them that I had another offer and b] asked them to let me know about a time frame when it comes to hearing back, not asking about my ranking. They said that they sometimes "go deep into the waitlist" so I'm inferring that I'm ranked low on the waitlist. Which, you know, is fun.

Just did the same. Also rejected, told it was due to the huge amount of applicants.

I got the e-mail too... Starting to get really irritated.

My portal still says "applied." Maybe I should e-mail them?

I didn't even think of that. From a quick search it looks like UMass Amherst has it as a holiday on their calendar but Michigan doesn't, and those are at least the two I'm waiting on.

I have only been on one interview but we didn't even go near that. Our main focus - other than discussing specifics of the program - was on my own research.

Are you talking about one in particular or in general? Because if the latter, then yes. Party time.

I totally understand why you'd be disappointed about that. Sure, never assume anything, but sometimes you can't really help it... I really hope that it works out for you. Do you happen to know when they're planning on notifying the rest of us? From what I can tell, you're the only applicant on the forum who's been notified today.

Congrats! I hope they can free up space for you. Is your application portal changed? Was it an individual message or from the system?

I know, it's driving me crazy. I know they're supposed to be taking a long time this year to limit their class size, but that doesn't make it any less nervewracking whenever my e-mail chimes.

Yikes, okay. Welp. I've reached out twice in about two weeks... So sorry y'all, can't get any more information than that.

My POI said she didn't know when the decisions would be released but she gave me a different person to contact, Professor Sara Burgard. Here's my dilemma, though: this would be my third e-mail this month asking UM about their decisions... Is it worth the risk of being thought of as a naggy applicant to attempt to get this information? No matter how much it killed me, I would wait it out in order to not damage my chances of getting into UM. Anybody have an opinion?

I'm assuming so... As I have yet to hear back from Michigan and they seem to send out all decisions at once. I e-mailed my POI I'd been in contact with there today to (politely) ask if she knew when we could expect to hear.

I'm referring to UM-Ann Arbor. There are a bunch of universities there, you're right. My apologies if I confused you! That's a good theory. It's helping and also not helping... Knowing why they might be taking longer is good, but knowing that they'll be pickier is not great for my anxiety.

Grad coordinator still says by the end of February with no more specific information, so I think we have a while more to wait...

Just heard back from Rutgers: admitted, but waitlisted for funding. This is one of my top choices and I can't go without being funded, so I really hope the waitlist moves fast.
