  1. I actually jumped the gun and bought my tickets before I knew any details because I found a good deal XD I'm not sure about your host country, but mine is providing $1500 for a round trip. This money will be given to me in the country's currency at some later point (when I'm already there?). An important detail to keep in mind is that you must abide by the Fly America Act which states that if you are using federal funding to purchase plane tickets then, it must be with an American-owned airline. There are exceptions and its different for each country. Luckily for me, my case fell within those exceptions (thank goodness). You can always ask your country's coordinator for the final word on whether you can get away with using a non-American airline. You would end up doing this if there were no American flights to that location or if America had an agreement with the country(ies) you were landing in, etc. Don't you love planning for it all!? I'm about to wrap up my last semester of college and it is so hard to concentrate! XP
  2. <3 Sorry. I know you'll find another way to accomplish your goals. Sending you hugs!
  3. I just emailed my terms and conditions to the usual contact for my country and they responded with a thank you. In reference to the deadlines...I think they are more to just make sure that people don't lollygag on all the paperwork. They say there's a two week deadline for the Grant info document but, my country won't even be sending that out to me until May apparently...
  4. Have you emailed them? My country's contact is very good at getting back to answer questions.
  5. I think it depends on the country. The Polish commission sent me an email the day after I was notified with a confirmation letter.
  6. YESSSSSSSS!!! WHOOOO! So happy for you!!!
  7. When you say ask Fulbright..who am I really asking? I feel like it would be frowned upon to ask the host country for more money...so who would I talk to? Today I've already gone around to most of my professors asking them for funding advice. My adviser got really excited and wants to do a news piece on me now XD Hopefully we can cobble something together :/ I've been told that most of the opportunities people know about are for graduate students and since I won't be enrolled anywhere... It's pretty frustrating because I was very clear in my proposal that my research involved a lot of travel and I was told not to worry about money because the amount provided would "be enough". How can they even know that without a budget!? Hrmph! I'm not expecting to even stay in hotels most of the time but $500 is just not going to cut it.. The living stipend is fine. Could be higher (I'm basically making $8.40 an hour) but it is acceptable. I don't think I'll be living like royalty though, my husband is coming with me so I can't stay in a cheap dorm or something and rent in Krakow is higher than some other Polish cities due to it being a tourist attraction. For anyone interested, the dependent allowance is $250 per month for Poland at least. If I can just find some more research money it would be ok. Although I must admit, I was looking forward to being able to relax on the budgeting for once..:P
  8. Sooo.. I've already been contacted by my host country and their research allowance is laughable. Does anyone know of any scholarships or grants that I could apply for to supplement the Fulbright funding? Research area is related to endangered plant conservation, specifically mosses. Any advice would really be appreciated.
  9. Oh sh*t! I just assumed that with so many new posts a bunch of people would have been notified and celebrating. Sorry for getting all crazy. @AnnMarie and @hank.img I still believe that we can share a coffee come this fall in beautiful Poland. Sending you positive energy!! <3
  10. Me: >Opens computer >Sees there are 30+ new posts in the forum >Without even stopping to read what people said, open my email >See a P..see Congratulations... >Bring down the foundations of my house from jumping around and screaming at the top of my lungs scaring the crap out of my husband who's in the shower I'M GOING TO POLAND MOTHER FULBRIGHTERS!!!!!! >Sidenote: wanted to call mom, dad, and best friends to scream at them through the phone....NO ONE PICKS UP!!! WWWHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, now I'm going to go back and read everyone's posts. Congrats to everyone who got good news today!
  11. @LibbyCreek Congratulations!! I am so happy for you!
  12. @AnnMarie Oh, you know, I just realized that the dates between the spreadsheets are not the same for Poland?? Well now its really a mystery!
  13. Well the past two years it has been 3/19 and 3/20. Now that I look at those dates on a calendar I've realized that 4/20 last year was a Sunday! :0 How strange! So going by those, it would make sense for next week to be more likely than this week. It just gets better and better with each book! So glad you are enjoying the series Now you can watch the show too!
  14. I think we will be lucky if we find out this week. I think it might be more likely that we find out early the next week (starting with the 20th). Fingers crossed for this week though! I can't go on this way! P.S. How is Outlander going?
  15. Research in Poland! I have been unable to keep myself from believing that I will get it, thus daydreaming about all the things I will do when over there! >< A rejection would be devastating at this point :/ Here's to the power of positive thinking!!
  16. Is this referring to a specific country or all Fulbrights? I hope not! D: I'm putting off so many big decisions...
  17. If only there were more than the two seasons so far!
  18. Dreams are crazy man. A few weeks ago I had a bizarre dream that Hillary Clinton picked me up in a private jet and flew me to the White House where we went into some tiny crawlspace room with a long observation window and she told me that I got the Fulbright XD The Fulbright is making us all crazy! Has anyone else been having weird Fulbright-induced dreams?
  19. We'll just have to wait to find out! Almost 1 month left! UGH!!
  20. Some of those questions make sense to me to ask, in case we want to elaborate on what we wrote or something. But I was actually born in Poland and I speak Polish. These are both things that are notable on my application but when both topics came up they were like, "Oh really!?". Seemed strange to me.
  21. @indexes and @hank.img when you were being interviewed by the Polish committee did something ever come up that they were completely unaware of but was clearly stated in your application? It happened during my interview at least twice. You'd think they would read the application beforehand.
  22. Sorry I just never responded to these encouraging responses! I had my interview on a Monday and was stuck in an emotional rut over it for the rest of the week! Its just so stressful knowing that I could have messed up months and months of work and waiting in 20 minutes! I am hoping that I was just remembering it badly like you suggested @bluet. And hearing that Fulbrighters being flustered in their interviews is normal is very reassuring @indexes. I do hope that interviewers can be understanding and read more into our essays than our interview performance!
  23. I'm actually a bit stressed about mine. My nerves were brain blocking me for days before the interview PLUS I worked the entire day before and 4-7am before my 9am interview so I only had about 4 hours of sleep. I did not feel prepared at all!! I'm ashamed to say it but I almost feel as if I "Trumped" some of my replies. I was so flustered! Its really been messing with me ever since to know that I could have messed up months and months of hard work and waiting in 20 minutes. Hopefully I'm just blowing the whole thing out of proportion in my memory. Its just driving me crazy!
  24. @bluet, how did your interview with the Polish Fulbright Committee go!?
