  1. Best way to learn about any program is to attend the Open House/Recruitment Event, talk with faculty and grads, and learn more about methods training. This is a big decision. I wouldn't take anyones advice on the quality of a grad program from places like gradcafe or PSR. Unless you are sitting in a hospital in a coma (dramatic example) or living abroad, there is no excuse to not visit the school prior to making decision.
  2. I don't get why they drag it out so long. Harvard gets a lot of applicants. There is no way UNC gets the same number of applicants as Harvard.
  3. I want this cycle to be over with. Hope we hear by tomorrow.
  4. Neither have I. With 2 waitlists posted, I am going to count this as a rejection now.
  5. does anyone know how admissions work? Is it one person per subfield making the initial cut and after this cut they ask other faculty if they are interested in working with a student? Or is it the case that one person per subfield makes all the decisions and other faculty mentioned in your SOP are notified after you've been accepted?
  6. either. I didn't respond to the first email sent out (took me a week to get over the shock that I was admitted somewhere), but have responded to all emails since with a simple "thank you, see you at the open house."
  7. UNC weirdness. This program is the most irritating (?) of them all when it comes to sending out acceptances/waitlists/rejections.
  8. What do you mean by "offer them?" You give them nothing. If they cannot fully fund you, you do not accept their offer. You will have to wait it out and potentially do a second cycle. You should not enter a PhD program if you are not fully funded.
  9. My onelink account still is not fixed. Maybe this means I will get nothing!
  10. as long as it isn't for a TT job, it should work out.
