  1. @GCFaith92 You should call! I just called Houston to ask about status of the waitlist, and the director was able to give me a lot more information than yesterday (number of students already committed, where I was on the list, etc).
  2. @atx09 I got a call abt 10:30 EST. High on the waitlist. I'm hoping for some movement soon bc Houston is tied for #1 for me. Good news from VCU and Emory? @robyn94, SLC usually has a lot of movement on their waitlist (as do most programs!) but particularly there, due to their large class size. So don't give up hope yet!
  3. @Ultrapeaches @minja134 Yessss, I am loving all of the awesome data we have amassed on here!! This year's forum has been so helpful to me throughout this whole process... it's got a wealth of information for future applicants too!
  4. @GCFaith92 @Ultrapeaches No problem! @Ultrapeaches I know you love your charts and data! Wow the results are so interesting, I love the spread!! Out of 17 respondents, only two have the same #1 program! I guess everyone really is looking for something different. @All... don't forget you that can also leave text responses for each of the programs you visited. If you've already submitted your rankings, and want to go back later on to leave comments for specific programs, just leave the ranking questions blank and submit a second response with pros/cons text only.
  5. FYI: Link to the survey results page if you want to see the updates since you have submitted. With pie charts, YAY https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScblLkOC10eqmrQDn_PLVrutN5sllsTnQ4A6Xoq8OnMJfq7uQ/viewanalytics
  6. I am also super curious about everyone's thoughts and rankings of the programs after their interviews! I would like to hear what all of you thought about your favorite programs, as well as what you disliked about the programs that didn't feel like a good fit for you. Since I am obsessed with google docs, l created an anonymous google survey that we can fill out to indicate our top choices (multiple choice style), and thoughts on the programs we interviewed at (short answer style). GOOGLE SURVEY LINK --> https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScblLkOC10eqmrQDn_PLVrutN5sllsTnQ4A6Xoq8OnMJfq7uQ/viewform?usp=sf_link Supposedly respondents should be able to see summary charts and text responses after submitting, but I will also share the results after we get some decent response data. Maybe even some sweet charts & graphs to boot. Hopefully we can give our more candid opinions of the programs this way @Gorays39 How I have been trying to rank the programs: (1) Affordability/cost of living, (2) strength of clinical training rotations/opportunities for specialty & nontraditional rotations (3) strength of faculty/academics/thesis structure (3) location/city (patient population/diversity, transportation around the city, how far from family/partner, type of weather, do I think I would be happy living there, etc,)
  7. Also, in regards to waiting for next year's application cycle next... I have heard from two schools during interviews that next year the GC Programs are switching from a Universal Acceptance Notification Day to a legit Match Day (like residencies for med school). That means each applicant will receive only one offer of admission to a GC program (with offers of admission generated from an algorithm based on student and program rankings of each other). Not sure if it will affect the odds of acceptance at any particular program that much, but definitely Something to consider since the dynamics of the application cycle, will be a little different next year!
  8. Wow, that's a great arrangement @SJMcGC! I also work at a medical center, and I took a few days/half days off to shadow when I knew things would be slow at my job. I made up some hours by staying late other days of the week & doing some work over the weekend. If you have vacation/sick time you can also use that (technically, you are going to see the doctor, right?) Also - for anyone having trouble finding a GC to shadow: I couldn't find a Genetic Counselor who would let me shadow at any of the local medical centers. A nearby program has their rotations in the area, so most GCs said I could do an interview, but they "couldn't accommodate" me in the clinic. I was getting pretty annoyed by this nonsense, so I emailed all of the clinical geneticists (MDs) instead. Most just ignored my email, but two let me come shadow them in the clinic for several days, no problem. I saw all the cases with both the GC and the MD so it was the same experience either way. (And I never saw a GC student in the clinic, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't let me come in the first place!) So if you're having trouble finding someone to shadow, I would recommend trying to contact the MDs in the clinic. They are more accustomed to pre-meds asking to shadow, and you won't have to worry about local a GC program restricting access to shadowing opportunities *side eye*
  9. Glad your interview at SCL went well! (And congrats on UCI!). I am also planning to take the Metro North/M60 Bus combo (took the bus last time I flew into New York w/ no problems). Did you have the morning session, and did you do the optional campus tour? How long did it take you to get from campus to the airport? Google Maps estimates 1h 30 min. I'm trying to figure out which flight to book. Not sure if a 6:00pm departure will leave me enough travel time + buffer for security. It looks like it's only ~25 minutes by car if you take the highway, so I wonder if trying to split an uber to laguardia would be a better option to save time.
  10. @Gadgette I talked to a current student at Pitt... she said they are still reviewing applications and are planning to send out another wave soon-ish (whatever that means)! She said they tend to review applications in batches based on when they were received. I submitted mine a month early because I was nervous about SOPHAS Express taking forever, so that's probably why I heard back earlier. If you still don't have word in a week or so, you could check in with them again. @TK1616, thanks so much for the update!! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but it's good to know they are still processing applications.
  11. Nice! Emory has internship opportunities with the CDC that might be a good fit for you, if you're interested in public health policy. Definitely something to look into! I interviewed at VCU last week. Everyone was super nice and the Richmond, Va area seems like an awesome place to live (great food/beer/music scene with very affordable cost of living). Ann Arbor is also a great city, so lots of excellent choices!
  12. They're one of the programs I was most excited about, so I'll still be pretty bummed. But yeah, I really can't complain. I have my other interviews to focus on and keep me busy! @mosley where else are you interviewing?
  13. Debating whether or not to email them.... I see three people got emails in the results tab, so I'm guessing they already sent out all of their invites
  14. @WBGC I heard from South Carolina in early February :/ I saw you and someone else hear heard from Boston last week? I haven't heard from them yet, so I'm guessing I can cross that one off my list. Did someone hear from Hopkins today?!?! *Refreshes inbox 5 times*
  15. Oh that's exciting! @Lakers1960 where are you interviewing? Best advice I have is write down a list of as many questions you can possibly think of... about the program, about the clinical rotations, about the city, etc. Even better if you can think up some personalized questions for the people who will be interviewing you. You would be surprised how fast all of your questions get answered throughout the day! It helps to prepare a loooong list so that you have something to say when they ask "Do you have any questions for me?!" hahaha
