  1. Congrats!! I was offered the exact same!!
  2. I got the same $17K a year offer. I'm also going to turn down the offer. I got into UPenn in Philadelphia and offered me more money. Congrats on Columbia! I was going to apply but after 8 apps I got tired lol However, I still get emails saying they are still accepting apps for Fall 17! But of coarse the funding is probably all be gone by now. Good luck everyone!
  3. I was offered admission January 20th. Then I got the "Official Award Notice" aka loans offered. Didn't get either of the GSSA positions. Still waiting to hear back from CBI. I called the school and asked about additional funding from SSW and they said I probably haven't received that yet because they are waiting on the decisions from CBI to go out first (which he shared are done by an outside committee) and then they will be sending me my additional funding offer. He said they wait because if I get CBI then they adjust the funding package accordingly. I'm excited about this program even though I'd be leaving my beloved Southern California! Luckily I've been accepted to 2 Master's at Michigan so if the funding is right I'll do a dual program. But if not I'll drop this program and only do the other one, which quite honestly already seems to have a large funding source because they are paying to fly me out to Michigan. Fingers crossed funding goes well! The Ivy Leagues offered me money but I've been set on Michigan all along because I have a little network there through a faculty mentor at my current university! Good luck everyone!! ?
  4. You applied to NYU Jan 9 and got accepted Jan 16?
  5. Hello IntlSocialWorker! How much did U of M offer? As a matter of fact how much did they each offer? It ultimately depends on what you are looking to gain from the experience. Michigan has Detroit (historically impoverished city) to offer and they have the special programs like the Community Based Initiative Program, then Columbia as you mentioned has NYC as a potential field placement which is amazing, rich in culture, busy and dynamic and then you have Chicago a vibrant city that also has very diverse communities. Taking into account your interest in refugee/immigrant rights I would encourage you to look into the demographics of the cities, don't quote me but I believe Detroit and Chicago and predominantly Black communities and New York is more of a mix which I think would be very interesting for the work you want to pursue in terms of policy, immigrant rights etc. Hope this helps!
  6. Hey everyone! Currently.... Applied to: University of Michigan, NYU, UW Madison, Harvard, UPenn, USC Admitted: 2/6; Rejected: 0/6; Waitlisted: 0/6; Nothing yet: 4/6 NYU teased me today! They sent me an email and the subject started with "Welcome..." but it was a letter from the Dean saying thank you for applying and providing resources and scholarship info to look into while they continue with the review process.
  7. Hey KruMaew and tuxedobird10! Congrats! I also got accepted to the 16-month program! I'm with you tuxedobird10, I'm from California so the cost of out of state tuition is a bit out of my range but then again U of M is #1 for Social Work and I would love to experience working with the communities in Detroit. I got accepted for the Practice Method Concentration/Area: Comm Org/Comm & Soc System MSW and I am still crossing my fingers to get into the Community Based Initiative Special Program. Did either of you apply to the GSSA positions? Or any scholarships etc? Have you received any info about funding? etc?
  8. I think it just depends on the programs and the deadline timelines. Decisions are usually announced 4-6 weeks after the deadline, I say this because I know for the programs I applied to some decisions aren't going to be announced until late March-early April which sounds far away but that's because the deadlines were like a week or 2 weeks ago (Jan 10th and 15th) so it varies. I would say it is really important that you take into consideration when your application deadlines were, some friends of mine applied to MSW programs for early deadlines like Dec. 1st and they received acceptances Jan. 20th and Jan. 25th already. Exactly what schools did you apply to?
