  1. Two applications, signing up for Slideroom, and ordering transcripts--I want to say I spent somewhere in the $140-$150 range.
  2. I've had family members go on to professional school (medical school, to be exact). I'll be the first one to pursue graduate school, though.
  3. I'll be starting grad school this fall and have been considering getting succulents for my new apartment! Although I suppose the first step would be to actually secure said apartment...
  4. I'll be starting my MFA at 24
  5. Update: I'm at a 2 now. I received my acceptance email from RIT on the 13th so yay! RIT doesn't follow the April 15th rule so I have until May 1st to put in my deposit. The little anxiety I have left is finding an apartment, maybe last minute applying for an assistantship, etc.
  6. I definitely hear you. Kind of explains my MFA of choice (although with the sciences also facing budget cuts, will I even have journals to illustrate for?). My Bachelor's degree is a Bachelor of Science--I majored in biology as an undergrad. I've always felt a strong affinity to the arts however, so medical illustration is my personal chosen career path that can hopefully combine my two loves all while earning me a living wage.
  7. I'm probably at a 7 or 8. One school needs my answer by the 15th. Really, they want it tomorrow but I requested an extension. My top choice, meanwhile, hasn't sent out decisions yet. All I can ask is WHY.
  8. So I just called up MICA and they've extended my declaration of intent deadline from the 13th to the 15th. From what I know, RIT is making final decisions on applicants tonight so I should tentatively be hearing from them tomorrow. That'll give me a solid two and a half days to weigh out the better option (assuming I'm given options).
  9. I think this Monday I'm going to ask MICA if they can extend my deadline. I'd hate to make a decision without having all my options laid out.
  10. I sent in my application on February 15th and worked dealt with the transcript issue in late February/early March and now they tell me the AdComm just received my file last week? "I apologize for the slow response – I was on a flight back from China when your message came in, and I am still trying to catch up. I see in the system that your folder was prepared for the Admission Committee… again… on the 27th. (After the problem we had with your transcripts “expiring”). Normally we tell students we’ll have an answer for them within 4 – 6 weeks… but it is normally faster than that. Hopefully we will have news for you soon – and best of luck!"
  11. Whelp. Got this email from RIT yesterday: "I apologize for the slow response – I was on a flight back from China when your message came in, and I am still trying to catch up. I see in the system that your folder was prepared for the Admission Committee… again… on the 27th. (After the problem we had with your transcripts “expiring”). Normally we tell students we’ll have an answer for them within 4 – 6 weeks… but it is normally faster than that. Hopefully we will have news for you soon – and best of luck!" So I submitted my application on February 15th, was contacted on February 27th regarding issues with my transcripts, was informed on March 3rd that my application was forwarded to the AdComm, I called on March 20th and learned that had not actually been sent and that the problem would be rectified asap, and now I've learned that my folder was prepared...again...on March 27th.
  12. Thank you! Fortunately, I do have other options open so there's always that
  13. I decided to email my admissions counselor directly to see if he could possibly provide me with an updated timeline for when we could hear back about decisions. Got an automatic response saying he is away in China at the moment. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
  14. Oh dear. And to think that I considered applying to UToronto. I'd be tearing my hair out. Not that I'm not already tearing my hair out. This wait is terrible. -goes to check spam box again-
  15. I'm at a loss for what to do. I want to contact RIT again (it's been a week since last time I did), but I don't want to come off sounding desperate. Anyone got advice?
  16. I don't think you have anything to lose by calling or sending an email as long as you do it politely and professionally! As long as you don't pester them, I personally believe it says a lot about your desire to join the program.
  17. @leekrasner Oh no! Well, at least we can take comfort in knowing we're not alone? @Gwhar1 Thank you! @Pooryoungdriver Yikes. I wonder if this is some sort of sign?
  18. So...assuming that graduate admissions JUST forwarded my application to the review committee after having my file for over a month, when's the best time to contact them again regarding a decision? Should I wait till the end of March?
  19. I'm not sure if this classifies as "venting" since I'm not exactly angered. I'm just in a very "how did this even happen" kind of mood. I called up a school to check the decision status of my application. Learned that my file was never forwarded to the admissions committee for review and that they would rectify this by sending it over right away. So...at this point in the game, I'm thinking that best case scenario for my top choice school is an admit with zero funding. IF I get an admit...
  20. I worked up the courage to call RIT regarding my decision status. Learned that my application was never actually forwarded to the committee for review. I of course received several apologies for the mistake. Whelp. Guess I'll see what happens next.
  21. @ss2 Your work is amazing! Whelp. I admit, I get nervous when sharing my artwork with other extremely talented artists. Here goes nothing, though. http://annenamocatcat.com
  22. I'm starting to feel like I need to perform some kind of dance in order to entice the admissions gods to send their decisions sooner. Side question: What program did you apply to?
