I requested a summer reading list for my PhD in Social Work program, but MSU doesn't have one. I'm going to quit my job in May and will have a substantial amount of time to read!! Do any of you have book recommendations? @wisdomspeaks I got an e-mail rejection from UM saying they only accept 8 people/year and it was highly competitive this year. I'm so glad this came after I had already accepted somewhere else!!

Just got the e-mail: I got into MSU's PhD program!! They are my number one choice and have a consortium on gender-based violence. I'm sooooooooooooooooo excited!!!

@JointPhD-Social Work Guy I really liked everyone I interviewed with! It only lasted about 30 minutes so that had me a little worried. They seemed very friendly and academically oriented so I appreciate the positive vibes I got from them. They asked me my research area and I told them my ideas and the Director responded "well that could be your dissertation tight there!".....which made me feel awesome. I really like that they are a newer and smaller program, which gave me the community feeling! I just want to know already lol

@JointPhD-Social Work Guy I'm glad your interview went so well and you're impressed with Wayne! I have mine tomorrow for the macro social work PhD program at Wayne!! I'm a bit nervous of how to prepare, do you have any tips?

@wisdomspeaks congrats on your engagement as well. I have replaced the free time I used for PhD applications for wedding planning lol I went down a three hour rabbit hole on this site yesterday and feel somewhat assuaged that I will at least know by the end of the month! I really want to get into MSU because they have a research consortium on gender based violence and I feel that too often policy initiatives are not informed by the practical realities of working with survivors. I'm particularly interested in housing related issues. I wish it was a more transparent process!

Hello everyone! I applied to Wayne State, UM (Joint with Sociology) and MSU. The notification deadline is growing closer so I know we are all just holding our breaths! My fiance works in Michigan so I just applied to schools there, as we are getting married in July. I have a BA in Film and Sociology and an MSW. I have been working in domestic violence shelters the past 4.5 years. Great GPA, Recs and GRE: Verbal: 166 Quantitative: 152 (yikes!) I have an interview with Wayne this week, but alas have heard nothing else!
