  1. Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knows if NYMC is still handing out interviews? I applied 1/10, but didn't get all my LORs in until 1/31. I believe this caused some confusion because I never got a "thank you for applying" email until I emailed them 2/18 asking if I they had received the LORs, which was confirmed. I've yet to hear anything back and am getting a bit antsy as they are my top choice and I've seen a lot of people hearing back. Anyone know? Thanks!
  2. Yeah, searching through reddit was what kinda made me start to question my decision. Obviously I have no issues with doing peds during externships and such, that's just part of the education. Just would rather not for my entire career.
  3. I'm beginning to second guess myself on whether this is worth it and I'm looking for some input. Here's the issue: I was doing a bit of research not long ago, and I found that it's very hard to break into the medical setting, my primary interest. The two settings I'm not very interested in - schools and SNFs - are the ones that compose a majority of the field. If I have to work in a SNF for my CF to open up more medical opportunities, I'm fine with that. It may suck but you gotta do what you gotta do. But... I've heard its still very difficult to go medical. That there's very little openings for a lot of interest and you usually have to relocate. I'm open to hospital/acute/in or outpatient/private practices/... pretty much anything but SNF or school. Is this a bad decision if my interests are rather narrowed? Am I pushing myself into a dead end and should I look elsewhere? I know most of you guys here are just in grad/fresh out so may not have direct experience, but any input is much appreciated. Panicking a bit here, LOL.
  4. Thank you so much! I've definitely looked into a research lab. Not many of them are really directly applicable to speech therapy, but I suppose the experience would be helpful nonetheless. Thankfully, almost all of the professors at my school have PhDs so that shouldn't be difficult. I'll for sure look into ABA places - you usually need some sort of certification/training to work there right?
  5. OK. Here me out here on my predicament. I could be overreacting because of my anxiety, but I feel I need some input... I'm a rising Junior who will be an out-of-field applicant. I'm not so much concerned about my pre-reqs or finding a 3yr program, but I'm having difficulty finding volunteer experience. Here's the issue: most volunteer places ask for references. I've only had one job and it was a measly summer job so I don't feel it is appropriate to ask them (plus, the manager was a bit rude so I'm not sure how it would go). I tried to find a new job this summer but to now avail ? The psychology program at my school is VERY big and classes rarely fall under 45 students so it is difficult to get to know a professor on a personal level. I'm going to try to start going to office hours and such, but even if that works I'm feeling like it's now so late already to start the volunteer experiences. 'm going to volunteer at this place for once summer and I'll be graduating already! I feel like I've set myself up for having no volunteer experience, which makes it that much more difficult to get LOR and such. I don't know, maybe I just need to get this all out there. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you guys go about getting LOR, experience, etc? I don't live in a big city AND I go to school in a tiny rural town, so the opportunities aren't exactly plentiful to begin with. Thanks for any help!!
  6. Does anyone have any experience taking pre-reqs through a different university while completing an undergrad degree? Here's my situation: I am a sophomore at SUNY Geneseo and I am a psychology major with a linguistics minor. I would like to go to grad school for speech but unfortunately Geneseo does not offer a speech undergrad program. I'm planning on taking a pre-req (Intro to Communication Disorders) through SUNY New Paltz this summer. This won't count as anything at Geneseo as there's no equivalent, but I'm trying to reduce the amount of classes I will need to take for post-bacc. So because I'm still in undergrad it's not part of the post-bacc program, it's basically me just taking the class. I'm probably overthinking things as I don't see any reason why this wouldn't satisfy a requirement (New Paltz is accredited), but has anyone done this? Know if its OK? I don't want to waste time/money.
  7. I didn't necessarily mean this summer, just in general! I realize it's too late this summer
  8. Does anyone know if it would be possible to take some pre-reqs over the summer while still in undergrad?
