  1. Yeah - it's a bit of a pain in the ass. Costs $20 or something to use ... for just one year. Plus, you have to pay $6 for every LoR you send out to every college - even if Interfolio just emails the letter (you can choose whether you want them to email the letter or snail mail the letter to the schools you're applying to)!!! But I guess it makes things easier on the profs, who don't have to write more than one letter. Still, rips off the applicant big-time. Also, make sure you email grad schools' admissions offices to make sure that they accept letters sent from Interfolio. I think some of them don't.
  2. There aren't many modern Middle East people at NYU who are strictly in the history department; however, there's a ton of faculty from other departments who work with history students as well. Khaled Fahmy and Zackary Lockman look especially interesting. Good to know there's another social/intellectual-history-of-the-Modern-Middle-East person out there. Doesn't seem like there are too many of us.
  3. So I'm pretty new to the grad school search. I want to get a doctorate in modern Middle Eastern history, with an emphasis on cultural and social history. What are the best programs in this field? I've heard NYU is supposed to be fantastic, but I don't know much else. Thanks!
