  1. Any word from UT Austin? I saw one wait list response in the results search but haven't heard anything else...
  2. I am quickly moving into panic/crisis mode. My dream program accepted me. Absolutely no funding. Another program, that is a bit too euro-centric for me and doesn't focus as much on my chosen areas has accepted me with an out-of-state tuition waiver and TA position. I mean, would it be completely nuts to turn down funding and pay full out of state tuition for my dream program, with the possibility of a TA position for my next year (but no guarantee)? I have heard many times that going into debt for a humanities degree is not wise. Thoughts?
  3. I financially will not be able to attend Graduate school without at least an out-of-state resident tuition waiver. I have been accepted to a University, and they offer waivers based on need. They request that an official letter be sent in expressing the need for the waiver, and the decision is based simply on this. My question: what do I include in the letter? What is enough 'proof' of my financial need? What is too much? I don't know if it would be extremely overboard (though I feel it would) to send my father's divorce documents, bank statements, etc. but I feel simply *saying* our family is in financial stresses is not enough. Anyone could make such claims falsely. What is the right way to go about this? Any advice would be appreciated!
  4. If anyone would be so kind as to review my SOP for a History MA application, I would be extremely grateful! I am hoping to focus on Romantic Nationalism. I would be more than willing to critique your SOP in exchange! Please shoot me a PM with your email address . Thanks in advance!
  5. Anyone else heard back from the German program? I found out yesterday that I am wait-listed. Anyone have a clue what the odds may be of me moving from wait-listed to accepted?
  6. Your research interests sound great! I am an American but currently living in Germany. I don't know what sort of funding Boulder offers, but their website doesn't make it sound promising, does it? I applied just on the off-chance that I'd get in and hopefully get offered something. They seem to offer more TA positions through other departments. Have you contact any foreign language departments (maybe German, or do you speak Russian, as you mentioned Russian?) to see if you can get a TA position with them? It's a start! I wish you the best!
  7. Don't apologize! I appreciate the information so much!
  8. I didn't get in.... Boulder was my top pick for many, many reasons, despite having applied to several Ivy Leagues, so I am super bummed. On a lighter note : CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE!!!!! Would you mind sharing your stats? This is my second time I've applied there; when I didn't get in I understand your pain with funding; out of all of my acceptances I haven't been offered a penny, and funding my studies is a huge problem. Hopefully they just haven't sent out award notifications yet. Do you think you'll go if you have to fund yourself?
  9. I have yet to here from UC-Boulder or Wisconsin... Getting very anxious.
  10. You doing this amazing, and I understand if you are totally wiped out by it, but if you have the energy/time for just one more... UW-Milwaukee, by chance? Thanks!
  11. Any other responses from Penn State? I still haven't heard back yet... I emailed and they responded to say that they have sent out a few acceptances but are still reviewing.
  12. I am still eagerly awaiting a letter in the mail/email/phone call from Boulder. Has anyone heard anything from the Linguistics program?
